Hmmm! I think you may be well off staying put where you are. First off where will you be working that you will be allowed 8 weeks vacation time annually? It will take you a very long time to attain that. Lets say you intend to be a self employed investor, do you think you will afford to take that time off so soon? I highly doubt. Now the luxury of having a full-time live in housekeeper is attainable but comes with a price. Unless you employ an undocumented immigrant (which is illegal), you will have to pay at least minimum wage for the housekeeper per hour, must work a certain amount of hours a day (not any time you need him/her even in middle of the night),must give him paid vacation by law, time and a half on public holidays and over time pay(which is also time and a half). And for your information, a house keeper will not double as a nanny, cook, and landscaper (known as shamba boy in Kenya). You will have to employ all those in addition to a housekeeper to make up the life you have. With the emphasis you put into your lifestyle I thing you are better off in Kenya than here. But I may be wrong and the final decision rests with you

Oh no! I have a police record check (without fingerprints) (CPIC) that was done in December 2013. It was fine for NVC...(DS260 docs) Am I ok? My interview is next week! Does it need to include fingerprints????

they usually only require CPIC clearance. however, it's at the discretion of the CO to ask for a fingerprinted check with the RCMP.

don't sweat it. if they do ask for one, you can get one in less than 5 days here in Canada. tons of fingerprinting services will submit a digital scan of your prints and send them to the RCMP for clearance.

did mine last month. had the report delivered in 4 days.

Sure, that is the one way to look at it. Lifestyle much easier.

The other is - and I don't know what it is like on the ground - what she suggested originally, which was the safety and security aspect. Many people have happily traded easier lives for safer ones, where they don't have to constantly worry about crime and/or terror attacks.

Then there is the child. There were worries about western ways and wanting to move in with the boyfriend at 16. Well, might I suggest the poster clearly comes from a more educated background. How about the better chances at education and so on that a child growing up in the US will have? How much easier the chance to go to a really good university? How much better the chances growing up in a society that is not so paternalistic, where women really do have equal chances, and where democracy means something more constitutionally fundamental?

Another thing. I have seen this a few times, posted by Kenyans on another forum, those who have made the move and are giving advice to the people who have not yet moved to the US, about what to expect in the US. Along with the complaints about cold weather and food, two things come up again and again: (1) the surprise that people obey the law without being forced to (2) the fact that you get into trouble for hitting your wife. Wow. As said before, I don't know Kenya, maybe these kind of comments are specific to certain areas etc that the original poster is not part of. But I know where I would rather bring a child up.

Maybe none of those things matter. Maybe it's easier having someone to cook and clean and wash and iron for you than thinking about the best place for your children's future. I know a LOT of people who have swopped easier lifestyles for safer ones. Maybe Australians and British don't think the US is a safe law abiding country, but for many Africans it is a massive improvement on what we come from. Maybe Kenya is safer than where I come from so the choice is not as stark. But I know where my preferences lie, and it is in giving my children a safer, better future than what I can give them here, even if it means they have to tidy their own rooms at the end of every day.

Well, I did one January 2013 with fingerprints,,,"negative" >>>>>then things took so long at USCIS I did another one without prints in Dec 2013 also "negative" I called the police in my area today that do the digital prints and they said its taking 3+ weeks to get it, they are backed up at CPIC.

It says in my appointment letter to bring an updated "police check" if its more than 1 Year old. But the one I had done in December/13 is 5 months old. They accepted that one at NVC.

I made an appointment for tomorrow and hour drive away and $90!!. My husband says I'm wasting time and money but if they don't like the one I have at least I will be 11 days closer to getting a new one to send to embassy after interview!

Btw I also sent NVC the older one from January 2013 with prints even though it was just over a year old. So they had 2.

Who thinks I'm crazy to do another check? I'm trying to be proactive! Or otherwise known as a "worry wart" I just don't want to mess up this detail. I nervous enough about May 30th!

I for one don't think you are crazy. 90 bucks for some insurance just in case. Makes a lot of sense to me. You can never be too safe. I think your backup plan is a great idea. If I could give you two thumbs up I would. You go girl!!
