Hey all! My fiance is in Canada and has called everywhere to get a copy of his immunization record and with no luck. We have decided to just go ahead and get whatever immunizations that are required for him to come. Can someone tell me exactly what he will need. I have looked at all the shots required for his age but then I read that only MMR, Varicella and Tdap are required so I am confused. Thank you in advance for your help!

Depending on where your Fiance is from he might be able to contact the local Public Heath Unit for his immunization records. I didn't have mine but contacted the Public Health Unit and since some of my vaccinations were done for Elementary, Secondary and High school Public Heath had the records I was missing. I lived in Ontario.

I think that he already did this but I will make sure. He is in Ontario also so maybe if he has not done this yet there is hope! Thanks so much.

I assume you also called his high school? They keep records pretty much indefinitely due to sending transcripts, etc. They'd also have a record of his vaccinations.

Your welcome. I also took the form to my family doctor and I only had to have boosters for the immunizations. Public Health had to locate mine on microfilm but they were able to go back to the 1970's. They maybe able to go back even futher than that.

In Canada do you only need MMR (mumps, measles, rubella), Tdap (or dTap - same vaccine), verbal confirmation of chicken pox or varicella vaccine, and flu isn't need because it's no longer flu season.

He can get tested for immunity to all of these at the request of his doctor, but I suggest just getting the Tdap done anyhow if he doesn't remember the last time he had a tetanus shot. He can get them done at the health clinic, often for free.

The doctor suggested that according to my age 31 years, i need only MMR2. I told him thats all, he said yes thats all.

When you do the medical exam, the surgeon will examine you and then he will fill the application ...special papers for him and then he will ask you many questions and accordingly he will decide which vaccine you need.

That what happened to me

Good luck :)

Canada is a bit different maybe. We can get the vaccinations for free at the health clinic but it costs extra money at the medical exam so many of us choose to get them ahead of time.

But it's good to note for others going through your embassy! :) Thanks for sharing. :)

I'm Canadian born in 1960s and had no "official" record -- I just walked in the clinic and got a lab req for a blood test that would show "evidence of past infection or immunity to disease" (mumps measles, chickenpox, and rubella). There was no charge and in the end I only needed the DPT and a flu shot (although I did get HEP shots). It took about a week to get the results back. Just tell the doc you want to make sure you're covered etc -- pretty sure they won't charge you as they are really promoting vaccinations these days.

It's probably a good thing if he had a record.

As far as what you need just call the doctor's office -- I went to Dr. Cheema -- staff is great!

They are based on age, whether or not someone had the chickenpox, and flu season > http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

Its aged based, but also keep in mind if he works i.e. in a lab (not saying he does) that he needs his Hep A+B shots. And those shots are expensive.

If you haven't called his high school or elementry school (assuming they keep the records) try doing that as well. It will save you a lot of money. Getting a shot from the embassy selected doctor is quiet expensive. Your normal doctor could cover it (or up to 80% is the case in the netherlands).
