The anti-gun side uses lots of lies and many border on ridiculous.

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" - Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945.

Thank you. It was obvious you didn't want to chat about the article. Bye bye

I'm not outraged. I am not emotionally involved in the gun argument. However, I can clearly recognise a straw man argument when I see one.

Here's another one for you to chew over.

MYTH: Simply anyone shouldn’t be able to own a gun, like the mentally ill for instance.

This is another straw man argument. No one believes that everyone is allowed to own a gun in the US. It's not a myth because no one believes it. The argument about the mentally ill and firearms is far more complex, who knew? What is certainly true is that a mentally ill person who runs around with a firearm is a recipe for disaster. However, no, I do not intend to discuss this article any further. It's trash and if you can't see why it's trash, well nothing I will say will reveal that truth to you. :)

For sure. :star:

I am not sure what the 'anti-gun' side means of course, but if you mean people who think it's a good idea to regulate guns in the home, well none of those people propose any of the 14 myths so yes, you are right the 'myths' in the article are utterly ridiculous. Well done. :)

I am very much on topic. I proposed that the article was based on multiple straw man arguments. That is very much a comment based on the article.

Yes, you know very well what the "anti-gun" side means.

Those groups and their supporters that advocate more gun control/regulation, despite the plethora of local, state, and federal laws currently in place. Many of those groups want nothing less than a total ban on guns as their ultimate goal.

The goal is much bigger than "to regulate guns in the home."

Actually, I don't know any such thing. There may well be such groups but I know nothing about them. Could you please direct me to a website where such a group lays out it's agenda?

There is a middle position, one that belongs to those who understand that guns don't make one safer, but is not a position that feels that nobody should possess them on that basis alone. The OP is clearly a poorly written article filled with strawman arguments designed to make the rabidly pro-gun folks feel smugly superior. Not a well thought out dismissal of arguments that anyone I am aware of being made.

Good luck on debating with this one. :star:

I've pretty much given up on debating folks on the issue of more gun control regulations and/or about the 2A. They aren't going to change their views about gun control and I certainly am not going to change my views about the use of firearms for personal protection or the importance of the Constitutionally protected right 'to keep and bear arms.'

You aren't interested in other opinions period. You stubbornly believe that anyone that is advocating creating safer conditions for those around those who own guns is after your guns. That's as asinine as it gets.

No where on this website is there any mention at all of trying to have guns banned. What is being asked for is more responsibility from gun owners regarding the storage of guns in the home. Talk about the biggest straw man out there. keep crying wolf.

You can't debate a closed door. Just disengage unless an open mind presents itself.
