Best ways to keep in touch with family and friends abroad.

As the title says, what are some of the ways you keep in touch with family and friends abroad? Me, I actually prefer just two mediums: snail mail and a good phone call. So my closest friends i will either call them or write them a nice long letter.

What about everyone else?

I text, reactivated my facebook (for instance my mom is also not at home, so she can contact me this way while travelling), and call. I also make sure to send cards etc...

Skype, facebook, email, phone call, whatsapp.

I usually use the latter one to exchange pictures, videos and texts for free internationally with people who don't have apple devices. My dad for example doesn't have one. Honestly I wouldn't do snail mail anymore. There is no reason to take 3 days to say something half way across the world when it can be said in seconds via text or email. Even sending over packages or money takes like a day now.

we do mix of snail mail, email, and Skype

if you live in the usa and want a good old fashioned land line chat, the dollar stores often sell phone cards, we did one that was $1 and spoke to Oz for 20 minutes, not bad, we have family that do not do ipad, facebook and the like
