Need financial advice

I have no job, no US bank account, no property, no real estate, no stocks... Nothing in the USA. I do have about 40,000 USD in some foreign investments and accounts. I am planning to have my parents co sponsor, and they own at least half a dozen highly valued real estate properties.

How should I proceed? Is it necessary for me to sell my foreign assets, open a US bank account and move all my cash to there? Should I ask my parents to put one of the houses back in my name? (One of their houses was previously owned by me for a period of about 4 years, but my parents repossessed it when we had a falling out 3 years ago.)

I want to make sure I get this right the first time. I believe my parents are willing to help me in order to make amends. Asking them for help is the last thing I wanted to do when I left the states 3 years ago, but now I'm willing to do whatever it takes to bring my fiance home. I really don't want to have to leave her here, and go back to the states alone to try and find a job. I have no idea how long that might take and neither of us would handle the situation well.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

Jon

If your parents will co-sponsor, then that is all you need.

Each consulate does it differently, so I don't know if you'll need your own I-134 at zero. You'd have to ask other Vietnam members.

For Adjustment of Status in the US, you will need your own I-864 at zero (with all tax evidence too), plus parent's co-sponsor I-864 with all evidence (if parents file joint taxes, good idea to have one parent do I-864A too).

This is the statement from U.S. Consulate in Vietnam "The officer will make the decision whether a joint sponsor will be accepted at the interview."

I did not know anyone that got approved for using co-sponsor in Vietnam yet.

Good Luck.

Unless it has changed since I brought my fiancee(2011) Vietnam does not allow co-sponsor. It might say so on consulate web site but highly doubtful. You should consult Marc Ellis,he's an immigration attorney in HCM . He's one of the best and very happy I used his services.

If Vietnam does not allow co-sponsors for the K-1, then your best bet would be to marry and file for a CR-1 instead. Joint sponsors are accepted for a spousal visa.

Oh, sorry OP. I did not know Vietnam was one of the ones that did not allow cosponsors. My apologies!

You'd have to calculate the equity in your house for a valuation.

Ck207, what level of education does your fiance have? My fiance has a 4 year degree in Valuation from a vietnamese university. I don't know if that has any value.

Also, can you recommend how much money I should move to the US bank? And who should I get letters of recommendation from?

I graduated from UK. My fiancé has his diploma from UCDavis. I think if you have house like what you said it will be counted and you don't need a co sponsor. Also my fiancé got his recommendation letter from his previous jobs. Plus he has been working non stop for last 3 years inside and outside US.
