Thanks for all the help, she has two passports, one for travel and one for identification (not sure what that one is used for). She tried to explain, but it was confusing. The problem with translating is that neither of us know what the correct translation should look like in english version of the ukrainian word. Maybe I should have her fill out the forms in Cyrillic and email them to me and have them translated here in the states. And it is too late for the nerves, it is already starting to cause some stress with her. Her second husband lived in Kalingrad and because she was there with him, she needs to travel back there to get the police report. Thanks again everyone

Internal passport - is passport that we use inside of Ukraine and is arranged in ukrainian, we use it as ID when we arrange different issues.

Foreign passport - is a passport that we use to travel, is arranged in english (with some ukrainian marks).

All the forms should be filled out with LATIN letters (English letters) just put her name and last name as shown in her foreign passport. Only time you indicate her name in cyrillic is on G-325A form (field put name in native alphabet it goes before she signs the form) and also on I-129F there is a part to put her name and adress in native alphabet (is when you put in in cyrillic).

As for police report from Kaliningrad - it sucks, but yes she should obtain it from there.... sorry about that...

Hello everyone!

Still being concerning about one thing: I put information in G-235A province Kharkov, but not Kharkiv, and Patronymic Olegovna, not Olegivna. Birth Certificate in Russian, local passport in Ukrainian/Russian.. So is it OK? And which is correct - OleHovna or OleGovna?

And how the Birth Certificate translation looks like? Any stamps?

Olegovna - if its from russian. Olehivna - if it's from ukrainian.

Birth certificate you can translate yourself if you are fluent enough in english, bare in mind that stamps that are in your certificate should be translated too. In the end you can put the following:

Certification by Translator

I XXXXX XXXXX (name and last name), certify that I am fluent in the English and Ukrainian languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled: Birth Certificate.

Signature: Name and Last name

Date:

That was a sample. Done some power of attorney translations already being in the USA, and this how it was stated on some of them (according to local demands):

CERTIFICATE OF TRANSLATOR

The undersigned, XXXX XXXXXX (name and last name), hereby certifies that the document attached to this certificate and made a part of this certificate has been translated into English from Ukrainian by the undersigned; that the translation is accurate; and that the undersigned is competent to perform the translation.

Both ways will be fine for translation certification, you may put the one you like most. And do not stress out about G-325A names, you fix all when you file the DS160 for visa, you will not get any RFEs from USCIS regarding names transliteration, the names how you indicated will be shown in NOA2.

well it does not look like my fiance will be using the websites to translate and she doesn't trust me to do it. On all the forms we are not clear on everything, (are the street and her city names in russian or ukrainian, her father and mothers names...father is deceased, both her ex-husbands names and the list goes on). I think soon she will have enough of this and tell me to get lost, I can see the frustration in her eyes and in the way she talks to me. So I need to find a professional ukrainian translator that can deal with all this issues and talk with her on skype or by email. what a crappy evening...

The names of cities do not matter at all. You can transliterate them from Ukrainian, in which case it will be Kharkiv, Kyiv, etc or you can transliterate them from Russian in which case it's Kharkov, Kiev, etc. Nobody from the US side will care. Yes, if you ask government officials in Ukraine, they will tell you the official transliterations from Ukrainian and how any other way is completely wrong. The US officials do not care. If the document is in Russian, I would transliterate the Russian way (ie, if it says in Russian Харьков I would transliterate Kharkov, if it says in Ukrainian Харкiв I would transliterate Kharkiv)

For the names, if they already have an international travel passport, then write the names exactly as transliterated there (yes, some transliterations are extremely weird). If they do not have them yet, you can just transliterate any way you can, and then once they get it and go to the interview, you can correct it there. For any other names not in the passport (parents, ex-husband) you can just transliterate in any way. Nobody will care. We transliterated her parents' names as from Russian, when they later got international passports the transliteration there was completely different as they Ukrainized them and transliterated in their own weird way. Nobody cared.

Don't stress about this too much. BTW, they do not need translations of her birth certificate until AOS phase. It's not needed for I-129F or for the embassy stage.

Thanks vbtwo, is there a part of this website or another one that spells out the process. I've already been on the USCIS site and it would be nice to be able to explain the process better to my fiance. She is in Kharkov and will have to make the trip to Kiev on her own, (I am in Anchorage Alaska) and will not be able to meet with her. My next scheduled trip back will be when she has her visa and to fly back together. At least that is the plan...

absolutely agree with vbtwo!!!!!!! as i was already saying, here they will not dig that much on k-1 process, and if document was in russian should be russian transliteration of names and cities, if ukrainian doc - transliteration from ukrainian. as for another web-sites......so far VJ is the best and most accurate information i've ever met on the net, you can also send her this link: http://www.russian-fiancee.com/rus/forum/viewforum.php?f=42 it's a russian fiance forum, she can find info in russian as for K-1. but still, i recommend to stick to VJ page as far as it gives the most complete info.

Until the embassy stage VJ is the best resource. Once you get to the embassy stage, the Ukrainian embassy has very detailed instructions on what you need to do. It's one of the best instruction from all the embassy pages that I've seen. Has very detailed requirements on everything that you will need to bring to the interview, how to schedule the interview, how to get the medical, etc.

Thank you for posting this. While my fiancé is Russian, there isn't as much information for the Embassy in Moscow. I can send this to him to give him a better idea other than what I've been telling him. He seems to think I exaggerate what he needs to do or he doesn't comprehend what I'm saying will be done (he doesn't understand what the medical exam consists of) & I didn't think to look at the Ukrainian packet to show him.
