My husband had his interview yesterday and it was approved! He was told the visa would be ready to pick up in 10 days. I was told once we get the visa we will need to pay the $165 USCIS fee. What else will we need to do in the future? Will we need to file any other paperwork? I am unsure of our limits with the visa.

Get married within 90 days after his arrival, then file for Adjustment of Status.

The link is to the guide you should familiarize yourself with.

He has to enter USA in the next 6 months.

I haven't reach this point yet.

But what I have understood, the only thing more you will have to get to leave a normal life in the USA is: his SSN number. it is free of charge and it can take up to 21 days after he enters USA.

I didn't see that at first :-(. I thought I could get everything right away as people often say on here for CR1/IR1: driver license, bank account, and so on. but nope

Then if you've been married for less than 2 years you have to remove the conditions in 2 years and get a 10 year green card and that is it.

Thank you....that is helpful! I am hoping his green card will arrive in the mail soon after he gets to the US. Do you know of anything we can do to spend up how quickly we receive his green card and social security number? I think I have heard these will both be mailed to us once he has entered the US.

We are already married. We will not need to file adjustment of status since we filed I-130

Well, stupid me! I totally overlooked "My husband."

Again, I think somebody who is already in the USA could answer better.

What I know, is that his green card will take some time to arrive (several months) but it is ok because the stamp on his visa can be used as a replacement in the meantime (for work, for traveling, everything). You just have to check that the stamp doesn't get expired before you receive the actual green card.

His SSN should be delivered in the first 21 days after his arrival. (It is written in some posts here and my husband already called the local SSN office after I begged him to do it :-) and their answer was the same) However, I would go to the SSN office and ask one week after your husband's arrival just to check you are in the system...

There is nothing you can do to speed along acquiring the GC and SSN. If you checked 'Yes' to the SSN question on the DS-260, the SSN should arrive in the mail after POE. If after more than a couple of weeks it has not arrived, then you might want to take a trip to the SS office.

There is a Guide about the SAVE system on this site. You might want to read it before going to the SS office to inquire about the SSN if a trip becomes necessary.

There, I've redeemed myself after that major oversight earlier.

There's a thread somewhere in the CR-1 forums. Use the advanced search tool at the top from a PC. I think it's "green card production" something. (Im on my phone or I'd find and link it) there's much information in that thread

If married under 2 years at time of entry, he will need to remove conditions before his 2 year GC expires. If married over 2 years, he'll have the 10 year GC.

Good luck
