WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) — A police commissioner in a predominantly white New Hampshire town says he won't apologize for calling President Barack Obama the N-word, and he sat with his arms crossed while angry residents at a meeting called for his resignation on Thursday.

Wolfeboro Police Commissioner Robert Copeland, who's 82 and white, has acknowledged in an email to his fellow police commissioners he used the racial slur in describing Obama.

Town resident Jane O'Toole, who moved to Wolfeboro four months ago, said she overheard Copeland say the slur at a restaurant in March and wrote to the town manager about it. Copeland, in an email to her, acknowledged using the slur in referring to the president and said he will not apologize.

"I believe I did use the 'N' word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse," Copeland said in the email to his fellow police commissioners, part of which he forwarded to O'Toole. "For this, I do not apologize — he meets and exceeds my criteria for such."

Someone check his IP address. I want to know what his VJ handle is.

Do you have a suspect in mind?

I spotted this article early this morning. I almost posted it & decided against doing so...why? Coz I knew you would.. :) Just not as quick as I thought....

Anyway...the comment = O meets and exceeds the criteria...smh....that old man = a despicable creature but yanno what...it's people like him which continue to spur the fight against hate. (&) Now that he has played his part...good riddance once he's gone.

Yet another racist idiot.

On a side note, Wolfeboro NH is a beautiful town on the southern tip of Lake Winnipesauke. I used to camp there when I was younger and have snowmobiled through the mountains in that area. I used to own property on a smaller lake not too far from there.

At 82, it would narrow down the suspect pool. I'm on the case though.

I think him and Jesse needs their butts kicked. Esp Jesse, he should know better. It's disappointing that he did that.

My wife lived in Hookset NH when she was little. I visited one of my friends from Nassua a few years ago. I didn't like the cold though:)

Hooksett is nice, Nashua is a bit more like a city than a country town, just over the Mass border. A lot of people live in Nashua and commute back and forth to Mass for work. I would have moved to NH full time when I owned my property there, but the commute to my work would have been almost 2 hrs each way and I couldn't find similar employment in that area. The winters up there are damn cold and a lot more snow than Mass, sometimes I wonder how I managed to snowmobile up there all those years.

See, I can't stand the cold. I don't mind moving anywhere, but the weather is a big part of it. One of the jobs I applied for was in Lowell, Mass. If they give it to me, I'll go. But I'll complain the whole time :ranting:

I'm finding I hate the cold more and more every year. Lowell is about 30 mins from me. Would like to have a beer some day if you make it here.

My husband is from the desert, and now he says "Winter is awesome! Summer is horrible!"

So, don't knock it 'till you try it :)

Anything's possible. No matter where I move, if anyone of you is within the state, count me in. I don't drink beer, but I can do a mean glass of water with some lemon if I'm feeling dangerous.

Blacks need to make it a regular stop on their sight seeing tour.

I'm pretty sure that might happen in the future. But I hope we do better than that and just keep going. The best type of revenge is being happy and letting it go.
