bcartr? how does your wife like it thee in US? was adjustment easy for her?

She constantly tells me how Ukraine is better. LOL

I believe this is the case because she does not understand how it works here.

But then again, maybe she does have some points.

So she is still adjusting even after 5 months of being here.

We did go out to a Russian Restaurant/Party for New Years Eve so she loved that.

So in all, it has not been easy.

I will just say that finding FSU friends for her has worked out for me. So if you have not yet, you better get busy!

She loves Skype as she gets to talk to family and friends back home.

Why pay, you did not get to use the old system, it worked quite well, and very fast, never had a problem nor had to pay to talk on a phone or get this new phone card, everything was done online by email. Anyway if you are happy with it then great.

No problem, when in doubt, go to Kyiv USA embassy website, get their email address and email them any questions you may have, they are very good and reliable, and can tell you just exactly what to do or what procedure they are currently doing now to be for certain. That is too bad if they switched to a phone system procedure this spring or summer, just more hassle and expense for Ukrainians, so I would definitely email embassy to find out your best options. Best of luck to you. [/b]

Hmm,

I do not understand? You believe that it is expensive to use the phone in Ukraine?

Yes the US Embassy in Kiev did go to a phone system charging some money to get information, however I found it very valuable and I never had to wait.

Also, by calling you can not only verify if your paperwork has arrived, but you can set up an appointment with them as well. That is better then email as there is no option to do that, and it is better then waiting for them to send you the package. This could save you weeks in the process, maybe even a month or two, if you wait for them.

They should but you watch E, they will do something to rip the Ukrainian people off as usual.

I do not understand how getting Wifi would rip of the Ukrainian people if this guy is traveling and most likely not Ukrainian?

I found the internet cafe's in Ukraine not expensive and plenty of places as well. Although I did not use WiFi, I do not see why you cannot ask them to plug you in directly using a normal CAT 5 connection. I mean, your not at starbucks right? And you have to be within a certain amount of feet for Wifi right? So why not just pick a chair and ask them if you can plug in?

If they cannot, they have computers you can use, of course certain things on your laptop you will not be able to do, so bring a USB device with you to make transfer of files easier.

nope... you simply go to the guard at the gate and provide your name... (do not stand in the queue... go to the front of the line) Individuals with appointments get immediate admittance.

Hi folks---I have a question for the married couples.

My wife is planning her first visit back to Odessa in March, but she has some MAJOR concerns. The important points are:

1. She kept her name after we were married.

2. Her birth certificate is from USSR---her name is listed--First; Patronymic; Last

3. Her passport is Ukraine---her name is listed--First; Last

4. Greencard has her name same as birth certificate (Homeland Security goes by this document first)

She is very worried that since her greencard and passport do not match EXACTLY, she will not be able to return to the US. When we went for the greencard interview, the case officer said the only way he knew it could be resolved was by her going down to the county courthouse and filing a name change.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this?

BTW---she will use JFK as POE if that makes any difference.

I would be more worried about getting on the airplane in Odessa rather than gaining entry at the POE... If she brings all her documents with her she will have no problems getting back in..Her greencard is the most important document at the POE!!!! Can I say VIP service at Odessa for less hassles upon departure!

YMMV

Really---never had ANY hassles going in or returning from Odessa or Kiev

I've told her repeatedly that the greencard will be all she needs---plus it has her photo--- even the most dense DHS official should be able to match a face.

My wife's cousin has.... Like I said... upon entry into the USA her passport is secondary... as the greencard is the required document to present to the CBP officer

You should be able to download it off the US embassy of Ukraine website. Somewhere on the website of US embassy of Ukraine there are links that allow you to click on and download the forms(including packet 4, which may be in a WINZIP file format) and checklists or directions for everything you need in case the Ukraine mail does not deliver.

Would take a copy of the marriage certificate just in case to prove or verify different names on passport versus green card for re entry if she is worried. Also when she comes back to the USA, only thing they are going to be most concerned with is the GreenCard or travel permit. Should not be a problem for her entering Ukraine, they will stamp her passport and let her in, she is Ukraine citizen still. Anyway that is what we noticed or experienced over holidays week ago when we went to Ukraine and came back.
