So we got our case number from NVC:jest: Could I book the medical already? Or wait for them to contact me?

From what I remember we did..I think we waited until the NVC forwarded our case to the embassy. As soon as we got packet 3 we booked his medical exam and interview. It's been so long though it's a little hard to remember specifically. I just looked at my 'signature' thing on here and we definitely waited until we received packet 3 to book all that stuff.

It's been so exhausting.

I'm waiting for the embassy interview to be scheduled now so wohoo for that.

What made it so tiresome is that my husband in the States is 70 years old and sometimes not all that healthy - so he doesn't travel well and I was deemed unqualified for B2 -tourist visa to visit him, because of the pending immigration visa. At the same time of the rejection I also lost the visa waiver -privilege. Never, ever apply for visitor visa while you're waiting!

I just want to go to the little lovely house we made as our home there and look after his health. I wish this wasn't so tediously long.

And how everything is dragging right now - with the NVC reviewing the documents, painful weeks for each correction - most of which made no sense. Faceless responses to emails, which made no sense either. We ended up just keeping uploading the same documents until miraculously one day they went through.

It's real quiet in this thread! Are there really so few emigrating?

That is an unfortunate circumstance about the travelling . The waiting is terrible, but I hope things will be easier from the NVC stage. I wish you good luck! I believe there really aren't many people coming from Finland or maybe they just haven't found this website :)

Bump :) Any newly Finnish/American couples out there? I know they must be lurking!

Hey there! I'm new here and also newly married, we are still working on the petition, hoping to file it ASAP! We currently live together in Finland, but my husband is going back to the US for work. I've been lurking here for some weeks now and it helps to know so many people have lived through this lol. Does anyone have experience visiting their spouse while waiting for the processing?

I moved to States on August, we got married on September and filed for AOS on October and just yesterday got RFE and now I am just crying 😱 I would like to visit my family and friends in Finland. And start working but apparently that’s too much to ask....

I am so sorry to hear, Katri!! You must miss them a lot! This takes a lot of patience :( What do you do to keep yourself busy? Initially, we were thinking of getting married in the US but it seemed way simpler to do it here in Finland, but now I am not sure we made the right decision.

Reading about other peoples' journeys has helped me a lot though, I try to enjoy the time I have with my husband as he can't wait for me for months on end here. I wish we had filed earlier but oh well. So far I have been busy with researching visa related stuff and also job opportunities in the States, but there's a long wait ahead and only so much to do in the meantime.

Luckily I have a car that I can drive and go places. I couldn’t imagine if I would be stuck inside the house like many are if they don’t have a license. First it was all about planning our wedding when I moved here. Then after that I did all the visa stuff and then it was the driving license stuff and then Christmas time and also started blogging. Just have to keep yourself busy  really. I workout 5 times per week which has helped not losing my mind! Now fingers crossed that I would get the work permit soon and things would get easier finally....

Fingers crossed you'll get the work permit soon! What kind of work will you be looking for? Having a car and routines must be very helpful! Was it easy to get the license? How do you like driving in the US?
