i 485 being transferred from NBC to Field Office

Hello VJ Community,

We filed our i 485 application ( AOS from K1) in September 2014. It is kind of delayed. In January we received the 'potential interview waiver' letter. We thought it meant soon aos will be approved but not really.

Last week I filed service request for more information.

Today we received a letter saying the form i 485 has been transferred from NBC to Boston field office and that they regret to say no timeframe can be provided as to when they will complete the review.

Anyone else who had similar kind of experience? How long is it likely to take now?

Any words of advice will be greatly appreciated!

I have seen a few cases where it has happened that people first got an Interview Waiver letter, stayed at the NBC for a long time and then got transferred to their local offices. Usually they were given an interview date then after all. It seems to happen rarely, but it does happen - that is why it is called a POTENTIAL interview waiver letter. I personally would start gathering my documents for an interview, just in case.

As for the timeframe, you can check the normal processing times for the Boston office at the USCIS website. Seems like they are working on October applications right now, so your case should hopefully proceed quickly.

Nov. 21, 2016: BBG approval notice received (p/u at German Honorary Consulate, OKC: Feb. 6, 2017)

Dec. 12, 2016: Priority Date (NBC)

Jan. 9, 2017: Biometrics Appointment

Aug. 31, 2017: In-Line for Interview

Sept. 6, 2017: Interview Scheduled
