I am currently in Phnom Penh. I have have visited the US embassy to receive permission to marry a cambodian citizen. My wife was denied the K1 in November because the CO did not believe our relationship was genuine. Now I am pursuing the Cr-1/Ir-1 spousal visa. I have met the requirements to marry. Now I believe I have to talk to the ministry of foreign affairs. My wife is from Battambang, the countryside. My question is who do I have to speak to to receive the marriage certificate? And in what order?

1.US embassy permission

2. PP ministry of foreign affairs

3. Battambang province?

Also, I had to pay $100.00 for permission at the US embassy. Does anyone know how much the "tea money" will cost at the MOFA? Please any help will be appreciated. I am kinda on my own right now and am needing assistance.

I have called the MFA and they said I need 3 documents.

1. Single status document from US

2. Income documents

3. Criminal record document

I do not have the criminal document record, although they told me to go visit them anyways. They said no problem. Lets hope so. (fingers crossed)

Chum reap sou! And congratulations on potential marriage in Cambodia!!!

My fiance and I were really seriously thinking about it too, before we thought we'd try the K-1 first.

Did the MOFA give you the checklist of all the things you'll need? that is what we were using. Also, you need to get a criminal background check from the U.S. It's really not too difficult. The difficult part is getting the marriage certificate signed from all the levels of government. "tea money" is just a fact of life in Cambodia. We were planning on it costing around $1000, but my sweetheart says it costs less if you're a good bargainer. If you need help, I could get you in touch with my fiance. He really seems to understand the process well and might be able to help. He even has family in Battambang.

The checklist looks something like this:

KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA
Nation Religion King
DOCUMENTS REQUIERY
I. Application- Foreigner:
1. Application form of Marriage (Provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cambodia.)
2. Diplomatic Note of the Embassy or Consulate.
3. Copy of Passport and Entry Visa into Cambodia.
4. Health Certificate issued by the Cambodian authority concerned.
5. Certificate of Celibacy
6. Criminal record or certificate of behavior issued by the authority concerned.
7. Certificate of Professional or Monthly income.
*Note: All documents must be legalized by the Respective Embassy, except the document No. 1, 2 and 4.
1. Application form of Marriage (Provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cambodia)
2. Extract of Birth certificate
3. Certificate of Celibacy
4. Health certificate issued by Cambodian’s hospital.
5. Family or Resident Book

All that we are and all that will be we dedicate to the One who brought us together

Thank you. Yes, we have gotten through the MOFA but are now stuck at MOJ. They said the criminal record is important now and that's the one thing I don't have. Thanks for the reply. My wife and I have tried the K1 and were denied. They did not believe we were real. Not trying to make you nervous or anything. :P Now we're pursuing the IR-1/CR1 visa. And wow is it a headache.... :help: I asked someone what documents I needed on this site and he told me to just bring proof of income. But I went and got a single status affidavit anyway, forgot the crimnial record. (face palm) I've been in Cambodia for less than 3 weeks now and have spent over $1000 dollars already.
