hen Jonathan Haith went to bed in his Henderson, North Carolina home, he wasn’t expecting to wake up to an armed intruder.
After hearing what sounded like a knock, Haith exited his bedroom with his AR-15 in hand. While creeping through his hallway, Haith encountered a tall man holding a gun who immediately fired on the homeowner.
While the thief’s shot missed, Haith connected and the intruder fled the home only to collapse nearby from a stomach wound. The man was then taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown.
While Haith was happy that he was safe, he knew there was nothing else he could do.
“I guess I did the right thing…I just reacted the best way possible,” Haith said.

Too easy to be disarmed in close quarters like a house.I think handguns are more effective because you can keep it close toyour body.

Also less chance of hurting others if you miss, especially if you have family in other rooms.

Actually you are wrong. People only shot handguns close to their body and hold them sideways in Movies.

Also not sure your logic on less likely to miss and hurt others in another room. Most handguns are not as accurate as an Ar-15 and many hand gun rounds penetrate drywall and wood much more easily than a .223 round

The better choice is a shotgun

Your aim does not have to be accurate and the pellets are much less likely to penetrate walls, especially exterior walls and hurt others.

I actually shot a bottle with my AR and the bottle didn't shatter, the bullet went thru like you drilled a hole. I was never able to duplicate that and have no idea how it happened.

A lot depends on the bullets you use in your gun. as far as penetration is concerned. Slugs from a shotgun will travel a long way after going through drywall. Many people are not proficient using a hand gun. You read about the drive by shootings in the hood. The truth be known is they just put a few rounds down range and hope they hit someone.... anybody.
