Would you recommend jfk? I wanted to go through ATL but then I thought "same sex couple" maybe they won't let me in cause tey don't recognize it? Then I thought of jfk, But I've read that it's takes so long to go through there :/

I'm pretty sure because of DOMA they can't discriminate against you for being a same sex couple, even if the state doesn't recognise same-sex marriages. The US government gave you a visa so they can't turn you away! If Atlanta is more convenient I would go there. JFK is a big pain in the ****. If you absolutely must go through JFK, go during the week and during daylight hours, otherwise you might find only 5 CBP officers trying to process 100s of people.

Oh yeah! Hah! I totally forgot about that. I'll go through Atlanta then, I want to book a flight for November 20th and one goes through Atlanta with a 2 and a half hour lay over, I'm just hoping. It'll go smoothly. But I'm hoping for my bloody interview letter first. Hah! :') I honestly can't wait to see the back of all this.

I want to fly out on the 3rd. But it is annoying when your future mother-in-law tells you to hold your ground at her convience. She probably doesn't get that I need to book a ticket before I can actually fly anywhere.

I will go through Detroit. It's a quieter airport than ATL so I have got that going for me. That is the only criteria for me, DTW, or no flight at all haha. Smaller layovers (especially the morning flight you only have to wait 2 hours which is plenty for that airport) the afternoon flights have 4 hour layover to my final destination.

I was going to fly out on the third as well because it was going to be a cheaper flight. But the prices changed somewhat and now I'll be leaving on the 1st of Nov if my interview goes well.

Only an hour and a half layover in Iceland, which is a nice quiet airport. But first, the medical in 11 hours from now. I hate needles :(

Also congratulations Fishandchips! :D

Just wanted to fill you in on my progress, as some might find this useful. I am finally in the US on my K1 visa!!

This is how it went down in brief: I managed to pick up my passport from the courier's yesterday, Saturday 11th. This was after a long-winded story of where I was supposed to pick it on Monday 13th but called the couriers crying and they told me if I called back at 8am I could pick it up from a different depot on Saturday 11th instead. Why was I crying you ask? What difference can 2 days possibly make?? Well, I'm supposed to be getting married on Sunday 19th and didn't want to postpone if I could help it.

So at 8.40am, the lovely customer service rep told me if I hurried I could catch my package at the Staples Corner depot. I hopped in a cab, the cab accidentally went up the M1 motorway (but that's another story), went to pick it up, and rebooked my Virgin flight from outside the depot by a loud motorway. YAY I was on the 8.05pm flight to JFK that very evening.

Now, if any of you plan on flying in to JFK, it is sometimes quick but more often than not, its chaos. This was last night. People were in line for 3 hours just to get in the country as visitors. So, I said to the supervisor that I didn't want to stand in that line, "look I have a packet!!" He took me to another line cos he felt bad for me, and then another line, and after a long wait, I saw the CBP officer who opened my packet, put some stamps in, and then took me to that room where they finish the processing. This room is not what I imagined. I kind of felt like I was in a police station. Loads of rows of chairs and people waiting to be called for all sorts of reasons. Some guy was brought in in handcuffs!?! US citizens and minors take priority, so it took at least 45 mins before the officer picked up my file - I could see it stacked in the inbox just waiting. I watched from my chair as she did some stuff on the computer, then she called me over, said "You have to get married by xxxxx" and then handed me my passport. Woohoo! Poor fiance was waiting for 3 hours total. But I made it!!!! Hooray! Now I just need to get married in a week. Eeek.

Looking forward to hearing more stories of progress!

What a process....welcome to the USA and congrats on the upcoming wedding!! :)

It is my understanding that vaccinations are not required for the K-1 Visa...only when you are applying for AOS. Tanya is still getting them all prior to her medical just to be safe though...:)

You will do just fine in your interview...don't worry <thumbs up>

Which one are you missing? Most of them you can get at your own doctor. CZ covers all shots up to 100% (DTP).

What does the medical mean anyway? Just some blood work, xray and check on your vaccs?
