A Sudanese judge on Thursday sentenced a woman to death for converting from Islam to Christianity, despite Western appeals calling to respect freedom of religion.

"We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death," Judge Abbas Mohammed al-Khalifa told the woman, addressing her by a Muslim name, Adraf Al-Hadi Mohammed Abdullah.

Her Christian name is Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag.

Khalifa also sentenced her to 100 lashes for "adultery".

Ishag, who rights activists say is pregnant and 27 years old, reacted without emotion when Abbas delivered the verdict at a court in the Khartoum district of Haj Yousef.

Earlier in the hearing, an Islamic religious leader spoke with her in the caged dock for about 30 minutes.

Then she calmly told the judge: "I am a Christian and I never committed apostasy."

I would think that kinda comes with the package when one's religion assumes its God is the only God by definition.

As a Christian though, I think it takes great courage to stand by her faith. I would do the same.

This is like pre-Roman adoption of Christianity when Christians were persecuted.

I'm not an immigration expert but my city has the second largest Somali population after Minneapolis. How do they get here? Are they on some kind of exception list I don't get it. Just curious bc it seems certain groups from various countries have a harder time to immigrate. I always joke that someone gave these Somalis the wrong map, coming to two cold States. Seems like they would want to move some place hot like Nevada or Arizona

After I got done being single as hell and was about to become monogamous I went to my Doc and got all the tests

He did not tell they don't give results over the phone due to Hippa

They called me and told me to come in so the doctor could explain my results .

The Somali immigrants are here because of the Somali Civil war in the 90s.

I read that they are not integrating well. Some from Minnesota went back home to join the terror group al-Shabab.

The Somalis are refugees placed in certain communities by international refugee relocation organizations.
