taylors single “do i make you proud?” hit #1 on both the pop 100 & the billboard hot 100 charts… his album hit #2 on the billboard 200 chart… that’s more than a ford commercial…

From his Wiki... '"Do I Make You Proud" remained number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week, gradually declining until it left the chart after eight weeks, making it the first #1 single in the history of the US charts to fall off the charts in less than ten weeks.' Taylor will go the way of Ruben. You can bet on it.

carrie underwood has had 3 single #1 hits and other songs that have hit #2 and #3… her album hit #1 on the country chart and #2 on the billboard 200 chart… she won 2 grammys: best new artist and best female country vocal performance… although you might not personally listen to country, it is still a very valid genre and a great success for her…

I never said Carrie wasn't a good country singer. I don't listen to much country but it's not because I dislike it. I think most of the female country singers have amazing voices. I actually watched a tribute to Reba on the HDTV music channel a while back. It was excellent and while Carrie was in it she was not the best singer there. She's young though. Still, I don't listen to much radio - my FM stations aren't even programmed. :P

i think last year the combination of personalities was quite fun... and as a whole, i think the talent this year is not as good... even some of the folks that had/have good vocals lack the depth that makes you *FEEL* it... i think there are a couple of singers who are outstanding this year... but they dont make up for the absolute LACK of talent in the others, like sanjaya... sure he is cute (in a rather effiminate way), but has no real charisma and nowhere near the vocal talent of some of the others... VFTW couldnt be keeping him in by themselves... the tweens are pushing his votes up enough to keep him in... its rather revolting to see him getting that overinflated ego... he seems to really be starting to think that hes *gag* hot...

Suckjaya is a joke and he knows it. I mean, that hair? That's proof he's just sucking up all the attention he can before he's booted. He sucks and he has no chance to win but the fact that he's *by far* the worst singer of the top 12 only highlights the fact that the current voting system doesn't work. I don't think anyone who has been eliminated could have won but who knows who is next to go? I do think in past years singers like LaToya London or Chris Daughtry or Jennifer Hudson could have won. AI should change their format. Let a panel of judges decide or something. If nothing else it would eliminate the VFTW and teeny crowd.

The one thing I will remember about this and all other season is Chris Sligh walking into the room and saying "I guess you're wondering why I called this meeting." that was the best line I have heard from anyone including the judges.

Both Sharon anad I watch the show together at the same time even though we are 1740 miles and a time zone apart, and we have been wondering who dresses the guys since their mothers aren't there, I mean if they have fashion consultants there why don't they use them.

For a reality show that has been on for awhile. Sonjaya brings a comedy item to the show and makes it interesting. Reality TV is getting old too.

I got hooked on watching Rockstar:Supernova this past summer. (I know, that is probably one of the saddest reality tv shows, but I was living in an RV and only had a couple channels that came in clearly ... and watching Tommy Lee's cheesiness was tres entertaining). Anyway, I did like the voting format on that show. The public would call in and vote. Then, the bottom 2 would have to perform again and the band Supernova would decide which one left the show. Wish Idol would do that. At least, there would be more of a chance of better singers staying, even with the teenybopper vote.

Yeah, i agree with that as well. At this point in the game i think the judges need to be more involved decision wise and not just critique them after they sing.

Why Sanjaya is 'Idol'-ized by millions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By DAVID HINCKLEY

DAILY NEWS COLUMNIST

Tuesday, April 3rd 2007, 4:00 AM

All he needs is a mustache to twirl. As the spoiler on this season's 'American Idol,' Sanjaya Malakar is an unlikely bad guy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's not overcomplicate the reason Sanjaya Malakar will sing again on "American Idol" this week while better voices are back home watching on their flat screens.

He's there because the most critical character in any drama is its bad guy.

Sanjaya is to "American Idol" what Hannibal Lecter was to "The Silence of the Lambs," which is not to suggest Sanjaya secretly wants to enjoy his fellow contestants at dinner with a 2003 Bordeaux. He's just the guy we love to hate, or at least ridicule. Whether or not our own favorite wins, we want Sanjaya to lose.

Unlike other contestants, he elevates our adrenalin simply by showing up. "What's he still doing here?" we holler at the TV, before we mutter a few unkind observations about his hair. That's the lure of bad guys. They keep us watching so we can see them get their just desserts.

Now some might scoff at the notion we would watch a talent show to see the least-skilled contestant. But in case you hadn't noticed, finding a winner is only one part of what "Idol" is about.

It's about vulnerability and public humiliation. It's also about what people will do to succeed and what happens when they try - when having skill isn't enough, or when selling a skill is more critical than the skill itself.

That's why "Idol" resembles traditional "amateur hour" talent shows far less than it resembles the manipulated, over-the-top melodrama from, say, Season 1 or 2 of "Survivor."

"Idol" also owes to professional wrestling, which from its earliest days has understood that the reason people keep coming back is to yell at the bad guy.

It's not that no one would watch "Idol" without Sanjaya's off-key warbling. But his presence gives this season an easy, accessible focal point.

Let's face it: We don't watch "Idol" because the final four will be Frank, Whitney, Ella and Luciano. The show is designed to produce commercial pop artists, who will rarely be much better or worse than a hundred of their peers. Even if they will blossom someday, they haven't yet.

So we need something unique. A talking point.

What Omarosa was to "The Apprentice," Sanjaya is to "Idol."

One oddly curious side effect of watching Sanjaya at this stage is that it also softens Simon. Whereas he often takes the villain's role himself, embraces it really, he now becomes a voice of reason, speaking for all of us in asking why this karoke bar castoff is still in the house.

But Simon is way too smart to really want Sanjaya gone, at least for a while. Sanjaya is money in the bank for everyone, which is a much better recommendation for survival than merely being able to sing.

"A.I." Finalists Fuming Over "Sanjaya Situation"

Posted Apr 2nd 2007 11:22AM by TMZ Staff

While most of the country may have fallen in love with "American Idol" wannabe Sanjaya Malakar, there is one group that is finding his growing popularity a tad irritating -- his fellow "A.I." contestants!

An inside source revealed exclusively to TMZ that some of the remaining "Idol" hopefuls are annoyed that the vocally-challenged 17-year-old continues to advance, while other "more talented" singers get sent home. We're told the contestants are not-so-much mad at Sanjaya, but at the situation, which finds websites like votefortheworst.com and satellite radio host Howard Stern urging fans to keep Sanjaya in -- simply as a joke.

We're told the "Idols" don't find it funny, since it's their future being toyed with. Our source adds that the contestants find it troublesome that they all work so hard to pick the right song and rehearse each week, but it appears that all Sanjaya really has to do to move forward is to show up wearing a scrunchie.

TMZ contacted an "Idol" rep, who had no comment.

sorry, but why is this such a big deal? its just a TV show :P . I am curious each week how badly he will do and equally curious if he will escape the vote-off. Any of the top ten are already *noticed* by producers, and likewise I should think they are more *winners* than the one who ultimately DOES win (by way of being less contracted).

i dont know, i find the whole thing kinda funny :D , even moreso now that the other contestants are allegedly crying "its not faaaiiiir" hehehehe

Maybe the Suckjaya situation will cause them to change the show format. What is the reason for the text/phone voting system anyway? I had a friend say the more calls/texts they get the more money they make. From where? The show is funded by advertisements and just because a bunch of dorks have Suckjaya on an auto dialer doesn't mean they're even watching the show (and the ads). I watch but I don't vote and I don't watch any of the ads either (DVR is the ONLY way to watch AI).
