Really? You would say that Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin are worse than the lot of previous winners Taylor, Carrie, Fantasia, and Ruben?

In my opinion the only better singer the show has seen is Kelly from Season 1. Since then the winners have been very average. If you're talking about overall contestants I think if you go back over the seasons you'll see a lot of dead weight in previous years as well.

I agree. I think I hear every year that "this is the worst year so far".

And I wouldn't even put Kelly over Melinda.

to me its just there is no excitement, in the songs, the singers nothing.......

For me, last year was definitely my favorite as far as entertainment, personality, excitement - I couldn't decide who I wanted to win, then I finally fell for Chris, then he got sent home, and I was devastated I thought I would DIE.

I just don't feel the excitement this year - I feel that there are only two outstanding singers (but even with Melinda and Lakisha, they have zero personality - ZERO), then Blake and Jordin, then really... no one else...

I Melinda!! She could probably sing the phone book and it would sound good..

I think she is a genuinely nice person....

You have to remember she was background singer for a long time so probably has some insecurity issues with her singing ability...

She's from Nashville and folks there are just ... nice.

I like her and think she's got a hell of a lot of talent.

Enough to make up for her missing neck.

I didn't really notice it till people starting pointing it out... she is such an awesome singer with loads of personality that it doesn't matter...

I liked Carrie Underwood's singing but I don't think she had much of a personality.... but that is just my opinion....

IMO only Kelly fits that description. Taylor's a joke - what's he done except a bad Ford commercial? Carrie's pretty and has a decent voice but I haven't heard anything but country from her (I don't listen to the radio much so maybe I missed it?). Fantasia's voice is annoying and her personality is worse. Ruben hasn't been heard from since winning. I think this year is between Melinda and Jordin. Lakisha has a great voice but she's also got a terrible lisp. Maybe she can overcome it but I doubt it.

Taylor's a joke - what's he done except a bad Ford commercial? Carrie's pretty and has a decent voice but I haven't heard anything but country from her (I don't listen to the radio much so maybe I missed it?).

taylors single “do i make you proud?” hit #1 on both the pop 100 & the billboard hot 100 charts… his album hit #2 on the billboard 200 chart… that’s more than a ford commercial…

carrie underwood has had 3 single #1 hits and other songs that have hit #2 and #3… her album hit #1 on the country chart and #2 on the billboard 200 chart… she won 2 grammys: best new artist and best female country vocal performance… although you might not personally listen to country, it is still a very valid genre and a great success for her…

i think last year the combination of personalities was quite fun... and as a whole, i think the talent this year is not as good... even some of the folks that had/have good vocals lack the depth that makes you *FEEL* it... i think there are a couple of singers who are outstanding this year... but they dont make up for the absolute LACK of talent in the others, like sanjaya... sure he is cute (in a rather effiminate way), but has no real charisma and nowhere near the vocal talent of some of the others... VFTW couldnt be keeping him in by themselves... the tweens are pushing his votes up enough to keep him in... its rather revolting to see him getting that overinflated ego... he seems to really be starting to think that hes *gag* hot...

American Idol is a flawed contest.

The winners are determined by votes from a limited demographic of which obviously are poor judges of musical talent.

Majority of votes that are text'd in come from teenagers, who treat this as a popularity contest and its all about looks,

Even the top talent is not all that good. The more this show continues the worse it gets.

I think last year was American Idols best run, and now it has taken a dive.
