Looks like tonight will be like an auditions highlight show. I'm ready for Hollywood to start....

And as an aside, just a little vent about Katharine McPhee.... Has anyone else noticed that no one really talked so much about her being a "beauty" until *after* her admission to being bulimic? She's so much skinnier now, and I do think she looks great, but what kind of message is that sending?

Asked by Meredith Vieira about the “mean” label some are attaching to “Idol” in this, its sixth season on FOX, Jackson said he hasn't noticed a departure from the judges' candid and sometimes-cutting commentary about contestants who have no business being on a stage.

Cowell is notorious as being the most critical of the judges; Jackson and Abdul are much nicer to contestants.

“Simon Cowell has always been Simon Cowell. People talk about the fact it is so much meaner this season. I think they need to go back and watch,” Jackson said. “I think people have selective memory, [or]they don't know what this show is about.”

“You've always been mean,” Vieira quipped.

“Simon's always been Simon. It's not going to change,” Jackson said.

Jackson — a 20-year veteran of the music industry who is currently working on his first solo album — attributed “Idol's” longevity and huge popularity to its format, which couples talent and interactivity with the viewing audience at home.

“I think we were an original for what we were doing, and now I see there are a trillion shows out there with three judges,” Jackson said. “I always say, ‘Listen, you can never copy the Picasso.’ So ‘Idol’ is ....”

“... sort of the Picasso?” Vieira interjected. “I wouldn't say that,” Jackson laughed. “It is definitely an original format so far.”

Last night when he asked one was she serious, she cried right off, it made the rest feel kinda bad and they tried trying to smoooooooooth it over real quick and a couple of times they were allllllll just howling with laughter made the singers very mad that they were not being taken seriously.

I think that was the girl (Jasmine) who had the family outside with the sign reading something like, 'Jasmine's are next American Idol'. She got upset then mad but in the judges defense she was terrible. A lot of them were terrible. The mumbling girl, screaming guy, the dark guy near the end. I hear about 10 seconds of them and it's the FF button 3 times until the flip to the judges or sometimes just to the next contestant. I think I watch the 1 hour show in about 20 minutes.

the first hour of LOST is just a rehash of what has happened until now.. the new episode doesn't start until 10pm

Thank Gosh for the DVR Button...we're having chinese food tonight and when we come home, we'll watch american Idol until we fall asleep....I like that plan.

The "Black Velvet" Girl was TERRIBLE. She said she sang for the mayor or Houston?? Ouch...I bet he's a good actor.

That Ruben Studdart look-a-like was real good. I liked his voice and he seemed funny. My husband is still rooting for that guy who looked like Osama bin Laden or Fidel Castro...does anyone remember him?? He wasn't really good but he did the "Supastar" move when he had his ticket and my husband laughed his buns off
