Major General Mohammed leads Nigerian troops under his command into Boko Haram ambush

BAUCHI, Nigeria — Islamic militants again attacked the remote Nigerian town from which nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped, Nigeria’s military said Wednesday, resulting in a firefight that killed 12 soldiers and led angry troops to fire on a commanding officer.

Soldiers said the troops fired at a senior officer who came to pay respects to the killed soldiers, whose bodies were brought to a barracks in Maiduguri.

...

Soldiers who were at the scene at Mailamari Barracks said infuriated troopers fired directly at the vehicle carrying Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, the general officer commanding the army’s 7 Division. He was not hit.

The witnesses said the soldiers were angry because they wanted to spend the night in a village and told their commanders that the road was dangerous after the attack just outside Chibok. They were ordered to travel instead and were ambushed, with at least 12 killed. The soldiers spoke on condition of anonymity because they want to keep their jobs.

What does this mean?

That's what I thought.

You know what magic is :)

Does beg the question why the media outlet would emphasize what most people would agree is the non-working part of their fight.

Why not a headline "200 BH killed by villagers"

I have older family members who spent time working in Tanzania and Kenya back in the day. From the way they describe Africa, this sounds about right. Magic is a big thing there. In South Asia too, so not casting judgments here.

Oh F, "Magic Charms" was in the title. I missed that. I was referring to this sentence in the article:

"The people in Rann and environs used traditional fighting equipment and charms to repel the attacks...they really confronted the attackers who were equally ready for fight," a source said."

My knee jerk reaction would say that they were making fun of them..... but they're the "christians" against the "muslims" so maybe its to emphasize Jebus or something.

Are you by any chance related to the Pres?

___________

Christians use magic charms too. Folk religion is hard to beat down, no matter how hard people try.
