Don't jump on it too fast. Some of these have expiration dates. It depends on the police department you apply to so you have to ask them what it is. If it expires before your interview it will not be good any more.

Also helps to ask the police dept what they will accept as proof. Just because their website says X does not mean they won't accept Y.

My fiance had to get COC from Hong Kong police whose website said they needed to see instruction letter issued by embassy. It turned out they accepted NVC instruction letter just fine. So if you have a substitute, email them and ask if it will be accepted. In our case it saved us a lot of time and trouble.

I got in touch with the Canadian Police Department, and they were pretty awesome about answering all my questions regarding the proof and the expiry.

They said that they don't put an expiry date on it, and it is up to the receiving agency to deem it valid, depending on their own policies about the matter.

So what does the USCIS say about it? When will they consider a police check as no longer valid? (One that is from a specific period in my past)

I'm pretty sure that I had come across a place in the USCIS website a few months ago where it stated that the police check never expires, but I want to double check to be sure, and can't seem to relocate it.
