Good good. Austin is expensive though to live but you would fit in with all them Liberals there. Texas also loves to hire ex military. Check into the Houston area also. Ridiculous how many jobs are here. Many companies are having to go outside the state to find workers. I woud try to help but I have no idea what it is you actually do. When you civilize it let us know. We have a few people from our area here and they may be able to toss suggestions your way.

Not from the AF, but the Navy. At this point I just want to have a job outside of flipping burgers.

I've been doing Administrative work for 20 years, my hottest skill is Defense Travel System(DTS), of which I am a Subject Matter Expert(I know my shyt). Already looking at Austin or Irving, Tx.

I've been hearing that. Janelle told me it's very nice down there. I've got a resume and I'm trying to civilianize it as we speak.

That would be great. I'm going to send my resume to Janelle and have her look at it. I think it's ok, but I realize most folks outside the military don't know what DTS is, so I'm starting from there and trying to work my way up.

Good. Anything military can be adaptable to civilian work. Sounds like computer work in an office setting while sitting on ones rear work to me. Perfect for many jobs today. Hell my company hires many lazy office people. Let me know and I will try real hard to get my driver manager to quit and get a spot open. :star:

My husband will be retired next year after served 26 years in the USCG. I heard the US government treated their military members or retirees in good way. My husband told me, after retired, he can comes back work in the military as a civilian - if he wants to-. Most of the US military branches will accept the retirees because of their backgrounds especially to those who had held a security clearance while they were still an active duty.

Just a simple thought, have you ever considered getting more education? My husband has a plan going back to school, gets some degree with GI Bill - if I don't mistakenly remember-. Getting more education with an excellent background I think will help a lot an applicant for getting a job.

I've been on USAJobs like mad, but it's mostly since I've got time left(211 days) I'm not within range.

I like Irving, TX. South is weird, combo of artsy-fartsy and illegal aliens, north is ultra-chic.

In the North Part o Irving, a district called Los Colinas - all of the fortune 1000 have offices there as it's right off the north exit of the big airport and easy for the sales critters to come and go.

many folk retiring from military service get another government job. I did my first hitch, got out, set up a business and never looked back. tbh, I've never been a w-2 employee since my hitch ended.

But I can talk about Irving all day long.... One of the cool things is the high # of mosques and the butchers that are halal.

as to 'the job for you' - I dunno - play on yer strengths and you should find a lot of stuff in that area, gov gigs and otherwise - always expanding !!!!

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You know what? My dream job was in Irving, Texas. But I'm still too far out. https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/365505500

Travel agent? Heck you should be fine then. Check cruise lines too. Dispatchers are a needed link to all industries.

Not really. DTS is only Government, Contract, or Coporate(I think). I'm more of an Administrative type with a skill in that field. If you have office work for me, I'm your man(I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that).

I start terminal leave on the 11 Dec this year. All I need is 2-3 weeks to get down there and set up our house. Then I'm ready to get to work.

That is why not much interest now. Companies will look at you when you get close to seperation. I was wondering before why you were having little luck as companies usually love to talk to recently seperated military. I know I can get you an interview at my terminal but they don't know their needs that far in advance. I can get your resume looked at now but let me chat with a couple of people when I get back home in a couple of weeks and see what the prospects are as they are planning on building a new terminal and may have a freeze until the completion date nears next year. When I say get an interview means the rest is up to you. Brush up on interviewing techniques.

Thanks a lot. The interview part is the easiest. I'm a people's person all day. The hard part is getting in the door to the interview. As you can see here, I have no problem selling myself

I know you are. I am still shaking my head on the last one I sent in to interview last year. I swore never again. Lol.

Oh do tell. I think I can talk to folks fairly easy. I've been told I board well because I'm naturally empathic. But, I can always take a few pointers.
