My medical (2 months ago, CA) was:

- filling the medical history at home (I had to bring my vaccination records to the appointment)

- talk to the doctor (told him my height, weight, ... about my chronical conditions, surgeries ...)

- blood pressure

- blood draw (they tested me for TB also, so no skin test for me)

- urine sample (they sent me into the women's restroom on other floor with pee cup in my hand. No undressing in front of anyone.)

- my husband got his missing vaccinations at the end, I didn't need any additional ones.

And that was it - no body check, no reflexes, ... basically nothing.

It depends a lot from doctor to doctor though. As I wrote in another topic, a friend of mine did her medical 14 days before me with another doctor (same zip code though) and she had positive TB skin test, so she and her husband had to do chest x-ray to make sure that they are both TB-free.

Timeline

My husband just had his done last week and they did blood work, checked for TB which he was positive for due to the BCG vaccine which meant he required a chest xray, gave him one of the immunizations that he was missing and they also did a normal body check on him including a genital check. They said they were required by the USCIS to check to see if he had any lesions down there and that he was truly the gender that he was claiming to be on his paperwork. He didn't really care about the genital check and just wanted to get it all over with so he didn't think of questioning it.

My wife had hers done in January and it was painless. They did the regular check-up (blood pressure, ears, mouth, nose, height, weight), draw a bit of blood, and sent her to the county clinic for her immunizations and TB test, which was negative. I seriously doubt they are required by the USCIS to check for lesions and gender...

A medical is not a joke to play on immigrants. Civil Surgeon's job is to make sure that the immigrant is not a threat to public health. To protect the people of the US from foreign disease or lax vaccinations. It does say in the CS instructions that a brief genital check should be done, but maybe they skip it sometimes. This is done to look for signs if Venereal Disease, and to make sure the person is the gender they say they are. People have been known to lie about their gender and scam a USC. Many CSs also do a brief breast exam to look for cancer; it is for your own good.

A doctor does this all day; it is not new to them or interesting. Getting regular checkups is important for health, and to catch disease and problems before they become big and life threatening.

Anyone is perfectly free to get a doctor the same gender as they are.

That is not actually true. Many people have extra chromosomes or other abnormalities that make it more difficult. Some people are also both genders, genetically.

For the others, a chromosome test is much more expensive than a 2-second peek. I wouldn't want to pay a few thousand $$ for a chromosome check.

You are free to believe what you like, but I hope that information is helpful for anyone reading this thread down the line. The medical is not a conspiracy against immigrants.

My husband did, yes. I get yearly gyn exams at a normal doctor because it is important for women to check for the early stages of cancer and other problems. It can save your life.

A genital peek at an immigration medical is far less invasive than a full gyn exam.
