BIG Thanks to you guys in advance for sooo much help!! Let me get to the point…

I got approved removed conditions of my green card and now I have 10 years GC.

I got divorced (Early in 2013) ---I never file any name change ( I-90)

I am getting married either late this year or early 2015 ( just got engaged).

I want to file for name change on my GC once I get married again.

Questions:

  1. Is it gonna cause problem or confusion, If I file I-90 along with divorce decree and new Marriage certificate for name change on GC?Is there any other form I have to file?
  2. How long is it gonna take? Are they gonna revoke my permanent GC because I got divorced and re-married and that looks bad?
  3. How long does it take? Can I start changing name on my SSN card and all once I submit the request I-90?
  4. Say after I got a new greencard with new correct last name, I gotta go to the embassy to change my name on my passport too, right? In order to visit and travel to my home country.

I feel like my previous marriage was such a nightmare, I just want it all to be over.

I received a text from my ex-Husband the other day too…of why it takes so long…and why I still have his last name…etc.(I fell down at work, so the insurance company somehow called him regarding worker comp insurance purposes, I submitted request name change to them but they somehow pulled it up from old data)

Thank you guys!

I think you should first use your maiden name... you are not married yet so your name is the maiden one... if is your name on your passport is perfect because you can travel without any issue...

I love you Charles forever!!

The last name you adopted after getting married is YOUR name. Yes, you took your (then) husband's last name but it doesn't mean he loaned it to you and now you're not married any more you have to return it to him.

Keep it if you want to. Get rid of it, also if you want to.

The last name on the green card and the last name on the passport can be different. The passport is issued to you by your country of citizenship while the green card is issued to you by the USA. To be safe, when you travel, bring with you the documents which help prove the two names belong to the same person-you.

If you got the conditions removed before you got divorced in early 2013 that means you've been a permanent resident for around four years now. You may want to wait to change your name when applying for citizenship, for free.

Why do you have to worry about what the USCIS think of your new marriage? If you entered the first one in good faith, without planning for it to fall apart right after you got the unconditional green card, then nobody's in a position to tell you how long you have to abstain from falling in love again or re-marrying.

Good luck with everything.
