Payment must be received and cleared before they process the application.

Please keep in mind that some dates are only known after receipt of another document.
For example, the USPS Form 3811. The stamped receiving date was not know until the original Form 3811 was received on 07/13/2013 1:30 p/m CST.

So I'm about to file the I-485 so I can get passed if I happen to be questioned while flying within the us. Is there any way I can file it then pay later? Such a high fee

Makes zero sense. Fact of sending I-485 doesn't give you absolutely anything - you need a receipt (I-797) of it being accepted, which you're not going to get without a payment.

I was told different on this forum yesterday.

Spend about 10 second thinking about it - are you're going to say "mr. CBP officer, I swear I send out that form, it's in this mailbox on the corner right there !" ?

What proof are you going to have that sent anything that made sense ? Anybody can send I-485 to USCIS, that doesn't make their presence legal.

You sure do a good job of trying to belittle someone. All I'm trying to do is get the correct info. Getting two different opinions. Trying to understand all this, very new to it all. Thank you for the info.

Your AOS application package will be returned and rejected when you send it in without any payment. Check out the guides for more details. What type of US visa do you have?

I have to ask -

what visa type got you INTO the country, prior?

OK - I read your other topic and

it seems you want to chase an AOS case in the USA

so

you need to take the receipt for the I-130 (a copy of it) and file the I-485 plus the rest of it.
