My Japanese wife and I have decided to leave Japan and move to Canada until she gets her visa to enter the US. We submitted our IR-130 in December. My wife will be getting a working holiday visa to stay in Canada. I will be doing some volunteer work there. We are planning on flying to Canada and staying for a week while we get set up, then making a visit to my home in the US afterwards, then going back to Canada. We figured it's best that my wife doesn't fly straight to the US because she may be denied entry. Although, she will have a Canadian working holiday visa in her passport, so it should be quite clear that she does not plan on staying. I'm posting to ask if there's any problems I may be overlooking. If you've had any experience similar to this, please share so I can avoid any trouble in the near future :)

Unless you are a Canadian citizen your entry into Canada is not guaranteed.

If you plan to do volunteer work as a visitor in Canada you need to be careful about the role, something can still be consider work even as a volunteer.

Finally you will need to show you can support your wife in the US, I imagine that may be hard if you are not working.

According to what I've read, it shouldn't be too difficult to enter Canada as a visitor and do some volunteer work as long as I'm not getting paid.

Originally I was going to continue my work here in Japan, but that was going to end anyway, whenever my wife got her visa. So whether I stay or not, the end result is me being jobless in America, at least for a while. That's why I have my dad as a co-sponsor because I can't support my wife. At least not a t first.
