I'm going to go way out on a limb here. I'd send a real letter, you know, typed on paper and sign my name with a pen. And get this, mail it. And send it Priority Mail with delivery confirmation so that someone has to sign for it. Make yourself stand out. They get a thousand emails a day with people complaining about something. And before I sent the letter, I'd call the office and see who handled immigration issues. I know when I requested a Congressional inquiry, I had to fill out a form giving permission for the senator to do so.

And I just recently met a woman who took 2 years to get her husband here from Sri Lanka. So, it happens. Maybe these VJers were lucky.

No need to do that Janelle. The goal here is to get a politician to make enquiries. After one then hit another to do so. Soon enough they will want to get rid of you to stop it. Overwhelming them with too many at one time though can backfire and piss them off.

I ask because there's that UN war crimes thing going on right now and I have heard through people that applications are being held up in Colombo as a result. Ex-mil, mostly. Also suspected Sinhalese militia members and fundraisers, especially if they have ties to the jaffna peninsula.
