Is there any proof that a walk-in biometric would help speed up the AOS process in any way?

It definitely speeds up the process. Most people who have done walk-in biometrics have faster timelines than other and are moved into the "Testing and Interview" stage and/or have their EAD/AP approved and in production faster.

The sooner they receive and process your picture and fingerprints at the biometrics appointment, the sooner everything else can be processed.

You need your biometrics appointment notice.

As for walking in at any time, if you don't live relatively close, I would call ahead. If you live close and want to pop in and see if they'll take you, that is also an option.

I've heard of a few offices being more strict than others when it come to walk-ins, but most are accepting.

As for walking in at any time, if you don't live relatively close, I would call ahead.

As far as I'm aware, the ASC's phone numbers are not available. You really would have to take a chance and walk in.

Regarding which offices tend to be more resistant to walk ins, I think this is a hard question to answer in general. If you know which ASC you will be going to, you could search the forums and chances are someone might have attempted a walk in and posted their experience here. I recently did a walk in at Alexandria VA although it was not particularly smooth and I tried twice. You can read my post about it here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/219386-early-walk-in-biometrics-alexandria-va/?p=7013104
