Can I fill out the DS 160 forms ( tourist visa application ) online and just print the confirmation page and mail it them so they can take that to the interview?? thanks for your help.

I think the instructions say your in laws MUST sign electronically the DS-160, that were the instructions in our case(K-1 visa), so what we did was , we got together online, and just before the last step, I stopped and let my fiancee finished it and signed it electonically. I Think there is a question asking if somebody helped you filling the form, she said yes.

Ditto the applicant must e-sign the DS-160.

What do they need to E-sign? just pring thier names, right?

if that's the case, I guess I can just do it all for them. right?

I know all their information etc.

You might find the answer to your question here: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/forms/ds-160--online-nonimmigrant-visa-application/frequently-asked-questions.html

I am unsure too, but they will most likely have an idea from where the DS-160 was filled-out. I do remember though that the consular officer asked who completed my DS-160.

The applicant must sign the form. You can not circumvent the law. This is the information from the link the previous post. If you sign this form yourself you will be misrepresenting yourself and your in-laws.

If an applicant is illiterate or unable to complete the application, the applicant must be assisted by a third party. The third party must be identified on the “Sign and Submit” page of the application. While the third party can assist the applicant in completing the application, he or she must instruct the applicant on how to endorse the application on his or her own behalf by clicking the “Sign Application” button.

My solution would be to have someone with a laptop of perhaps an internet capable phone instruct them on how to sign the DS-160.

ok. in-laws are in Africa, and no easy access to internet. I'm in the USA. Can the DS-160 be started and finished later? that way I can at least complete the application up to where they have to sign it. then call them to log in to to the account and ( with some assistant from one else) sign the application?

I understand that your in laws are in Ghana but they must still sign the form. You have 30 days from beginning the form to complete it. If it is not completed in 30 days then you must complete a new one. Do they live in a village where there is absolutely no internet? Or is there an internet cafe within a manageable distance from where they are? Someone can assist them in signing the form. That is permitted.

You also may want to make sure that they have some working knowledge about the DS-160 in case they're asked about it.
