I am waiting for my case number form the nvc. My lawyer gave me a timeframe of about 45-90 days to finish my nvc stage once she get the number... is this realistic? I have seen other cases finished in one month or less. Should i even pay to do this or should I be doing this myself? Im highly frustrated because even with a lawyer i got an rfe in the I-130, because her proof of a bone fide marriage was statements from the wrong people and could have been avoided. which costed me more time and money..... I need some sound advice on this.

Thanks

I'm at this stage too. My opinion is not professional, but I think using a lawyer is a waste of money, especially since she was not really efficient at the USCIS stage.

However, from the spreadsheet with current processing times at NVC (data taken from visajourney: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtbvTEwLyHz1dDhjM3lXTEl1cW1SbjRwdW9YRGlIanc&hl=en#gid=0) I believe that time frame is somewhat correct.

Yours could take less or more time than this, but the average (from the moment you get your number) seems to be 55 days. Using a lawyer will not change this I think :)

My opinion is don't use a lawyer unless you have a special circumstance. I ended up using one because I thought I might need help filing out the AOS form, and I ended up doing it myself because my lawyer got it wrong. There's a forum on here that's EXTREMELY helpful and everything I've done I've always referred back to the forum and it's come out right. The link is below, and any questions you have it's answered by people going through the process or who already went through it.

I cant really say anything for sure either cause Im just starting all this.... but i can say .. that a while back when I was having a time with getting over to see my husband ... who is only 20 miles from me .. we just cross abassordor bridge they gave me hard time.... so I went to a lawyer and he told me to apply for a temporary residence with helps on my husband medical cause he was waiting for disability *which I found I cant get sponsorship with that) .. and they wont give you an sponsorships with your mate being on social assistance is what he was, and I had been waiting for his disability to be approved ... and the lawyer told me that I really need help to do this... so I paid 1200 for him and they pretty much taught me to do all the papers .. cause i had to do it all my self ... then told me to go to border ... well the man at border told me these were not the right things.... i needed... cause he said its for for people who have a record. Which I dont have... but he did give me a vistors pass ...... that was free pass for year ...I was able to visit my husband and to drive him to things..... any way one day going through they ask odd questions all the time , one is why do you have this pass .... and I say different things cause I just dont know complely why they , gave it to me... one day I said i applied for temporary residency pass and ususally when i do its, odd they question me more questions,... this day the gentle man said do you have a record and I said no... he said do you ever notice that your red flagged more when you say that ..... I said not totally .. he said that is because you didnt get this for that reason and any lawyer who told you ..... you needed that, was totally telling you wrong.... its because for you to get a sponsorship time... so dont say that anymore ............and when i look up the application for it ,, it doesnt seem like that ....but that is what I was told . .... I see it listed for three things... but anyway food for thought ... this process of learning what is needed for all this border stuff has been very stress ful..... and tons to figure how what your to do... and very hard finding answers so i just want to share some of my experience in hope others might help me.... too i just want with my husband and I to live our dreams ... we didnt know we would go thru all this stuff at the bridge..... of crossing into .... so were stuck on our life.... till it get in place .... in hopes we are doing it right .....

I've never used a lawyer. This forum has been very helpful and is better than hiring a lawyer. Since lawyers take care of many cases your case has the high probability of being delayed even further. Better stick to helpful folks who have already gone through the process since most of them genuinely care about helping :)

Just my 2 pennies worth.
