Boko Haram leader kidnapped schoolgirls have "submitted to Islam"

Boko Haram released a new video on Monday claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging the teenagers had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed.

The group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, speaks on the video obtained by AFP for 17 minutes before showing what he said were the girls, in Muslim dress and praying in an undisclosed rural location.

A total of 276 girls were abducted on April 14 from the northeastern town of Chibok, in Borno state, which has a sizeable Christian community. Some 223 are still missing.

The footage shows about 130 girls in black and grey full-length hijabs sitting on scrubland near trees, reciting the first chapter of the Muslim holy book, the Koran, and holding their palms upwards in prayer.

Three of the girls are interviewed. Two say they were Christian and had converted while one said she was Muslim. Most of the group were seated. The girls appeared calm and one said that they had not been harmed.

Shekau does not appear in the same shot as the girls at any point during the 27-minute video.

"These girls, these girls you occupy yourselves with... we have indeed liberated them. We have indeed liberated them. Do you know we have liberated them? These girls have become Muslims," he said.

"We will never release them (the girls) until after you release our brethren. Here I mean those girls who have not submitted (converted to Islam)," he added.

What is the point of this display? Does BH think that the world doesn't know about coercion, brain-washing, or just plain lying about stuff to survive? They seem really dumb.

I am sure these poor girls will do and say anything to stay alive. So what?

Do they really think it proves that Islam is good or something?

Well, from what I understand, Islam teaches that all people are Muslim, and that the people who say they are not or don't follow it are sinners and bad. People don't convert to Islam, they "revert," because it teaches that Islam is the correct and fundamental religion of all people.

I have a problem with that, personally.

On the other hand, Christianity teaches that anyone can choose to be a Christian, and Judasim is tribal, teaching that Jews are special people with special rules just for them that others don't need to follow.

Does Boko Haram think that they are helping these girls, as they allege? Or is it just to stir the pot and a display of power?

National headlines of hundreds of young girls kidnapped by radical Islam group and "converted" to Islam .. that anti-Islam sentiment just comes right out of nowhere.

Mind you I tried to help by throwing out by bias against all religion in general but it did not seem to help sway the conversation.

This story was on CNN, it's not on the I hate the church website. I don't have to keep up, it's a main story. I also posted about the guy who got 26 years for plotting to eat children. This story isn't about catholic church, it's about the dude doing the act. I can tell the difference. And it won't change my feelings about the church, it's the folks, not the teachings.

I don't bash any religion based on the actions of a few.

It is your attack on Christians...... that is why you posted the story .Now you don't know how to handle this story...It seems raping 9 year old girls (by marriage is common in Islam.. or just plain slavery)...
