A few come here to discuss news & opinion, though most VJ members seem to come to this portion of the site to abuse others. Not every forum is like that, and there's no reason VJ has to be that way either.

If you truly want participation, then don't abuse other posters. It's that simple.

Here is what I don't understand. This place runs off ad revenue and traffic. It's not like a Amazon, where people come back for years. Most get their Visa and are done. This forum was a lot of good steady traffic day in day from repeat IP's.

I guess I don't understand why even have the place.

Also most mod actions I encountered came completely out of left field with no warning and many times could not even explain what TOS were violated?

My letter responses. I used them for a year with no issue what so ever, then one day I get an E-mail that sounds like a power crazed rookie cop out of control and a 3 day suspension for using them. I know some thought they were silly, but you know a Mod, telling me in a polite way to stop and explain why would have had the same effect.

Then MBD and I are told to ignore each other because we bicker. Even though I asked repeatably what was the TOS violation and pointed out many threads that were nothing but bickering, they stood firm. I just very politely told them I wasn't going to do it and stayed gone for a few weeks.

Then someone gets told they can't talk about some Japanese Island ?? More insanity

Some things I learned in almost 30 years of management

Never make a rule you know will not be followed. It just sets yourself up for ridicule and breaks down discipline

You don't have to talk to most people like a condescending drill Sgt. I have found that most workers, will respond, if you pull them to the side and explain what they are doing wrong in a supportive manner. Then if that does not help start progressive discipline.

The big one I don't understand is, well it did not really violate anything, but someone complained....SO?

Also when they come into a thread and delete stuff and issue warnings, HOW THE BLUE BLAZES are we supposed to know what not to do, if you don't tell us ?

Anyway I am not Mod bashing, as most are good people I am just giving some constructive criticism as to what could make this a more enjoyable experience for all of us .

I've never received an email and the first time I had a post edited was last week when I was a little to direct in my language about Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clintons activities.. There have been several times I thought for sure I would be called fro crossing the line.

The only person I've ever been aware of receiving any time off was a permanent ban of .. ooh what was his name.. had a RUB wife with readish hair.. and now Penny which I just learned about from your post.

Maybe the MODS prefer it dead save for visa related topics.. can't say that would be a bad decision.
