Hello All,

I have been a green card holder now for about a year or so, whenever I would've been first issued my first one.

It is going to expire in about 6 months from now and I would like to know the process by which I need to follow. I was looking on the CIS website and it said to follow the Form I-551, but I cannot locate that on their website. Another source I found said to use form I-90. Is that the case? I thought that I was told after our interview that to get an extended green card didn't come with such a large cost, but this obviously does with a $450 filing fee and an apparent biometrics appointment?! I just had this done a year ago. Hard to believe, I guess.

Any assistance would be great. Thanks!

Is your GC valided for 2 years or 10 years?

If it is 2 years, then you need to fill out I-751 to remove conditions.

If it is 10 years, you might be able to apply for US Citizenship depending on the visa that you were entered to US. If you are not eligible to apply for US Citizenship, then you need to fill out I-90.

It seems to me that you have 2 years GC.

I got my green card through marriage. I don't think it matters, but I am a Canadian citizen. I believe that it was only the two-year conditional card, so I would need to file the I-751. It just seemed odd that that would be the form I needed to file. I am planning on becoming a citizen, so I just wanted to make sure I was following the correct procedures. Everything I am reading on the USCIS web site would indicate that I needed to fill out the I-90.

As far as my timeline is concerned, I wouldn't even know. I received my green card about a year or so ago and have just been waiting for the time to expire before I proceed forward with the next steps.

You should be filing I-751 not I-90

Don't be the like this OP who filed the wrong forms and wasted money
