Hi there

I've just got my K1 visa in the post today (hooray) and am now looking at trying to rearrange my life over to the good ole U S of A. I know I've obviously got to sort out moving money over there along with all my possesions, but I was wondering if anyone from th UK had any other hints or ideas as to what I need to sort out before I leave? What do you wish you'd done when you were still over here that would have made your move over to the States that much easier?

Any hints much appreciated as I've been so busy worrying about the whole visa process that I havent really thought about what comes next!

Thanks, James

I wish that I had known I was going to get married without coming back to the UK, because there are all kinds of things I would have brought with me and packed!!

:P

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

I shipped my duvets (winter and summer) which have been a godsend :) I think most importantly keep in touch with people....by email if possible...I do have a credit card which I am having a heck of a time making the payments from here...I have to wire money to my UK bank account...will be glad when it is paid off :0) Of course eating a good curry or a bag of chips will keep u going to your next trip home :)

Wow, did everyone bring their duvets too :D

It's gets hot in CA, but I brought a very lightweight (4.5 tog) goose down summer one, which I love. It's cosy without being hot.

Not sure about the electrics thingy, but if you use an electric kettle a lot, you might want to try to source one/bring one. There aren't many here and I miss mine :(

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Electric kettles-I had no problem getting one out here in the USA.

I got mine at Wal-Mart. Same size as a standard one in the UK.

I got one of those electric kettles too.

Shame about the tea though. I have found twinnings in wal mart but its really expensive, but its worth it. I would of brought over a massive box of tea bags. I didn't bring my duvet and I miss it :-( I'm so cold at night with a crappy comforter and another blanket thing but the hubby is already too hot!

About the origional would I would of done differently? Eat all the good food you love, and all those people your not too concerned with seeing before you go...go see them.
