Yes Larry Elder. My fingers sometimes don't cooperate. Apologize.

Also I don't want to give homework so please disregard if you want and later today we can discuss the original issue and the fair housing act. I remember it well but will need to do a quick study later to bring myself up to speed again on it. My memory is not what it used to be. I lived during the turmoil of the 60's and 70's and all the changes so maybe I can bring something of the side of being one of the nasty hated southern white gentleman that I hear bashed so much here. Should be fun. :)

I only shut down if there is nothing to proceed with. Apologize for misunderstanding.

I have no ill will against libertarians because I don't know anything about them. Do you mean Larry Elder?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Elder

It's cool, I found it weird that you were shutting down so early. You usually try to engage in some sort of debate. But, I think my first remarks came across wrong. So my apologies as well.

I agree. But one as to try and understand it first to engage in conversation. It takes an effort that few try.

Here's what bothers me. I think the percentage leaning Libertarian would be much, much higher if people knew anything about it. I think the vast majority of people would find a lot they like about the ideas if they were able to study them without any preconceived notions of how awful the ideas are.

He and I have found common ground also at times. My sadness came from what I saw as a flippant response. I am still waking up and the coffe maybe hasn't kicked in. Apologize for my response to Marvin if he was engaging me truthfully.

I never mind homework. It's nice to learn something new. If I can get behind something because it's just and right, I'm all in.

I know huh. White southern christian gent and a black Muslim apologizing to each other. The world has gone mad.

Its like I don't know this place anymore...........

I know, pretty soon we'll all be singing and hugging each other! (F)

I think people who talk about mainstream politicians as being communist can't really expect to be taken seriously when they discuss their own political positions.

People who see extremism in the mainstream are often extremists themselves. You don't need to call Obama a communist to discuss the ACA for example. It just isn't true and has no bearing on any discussion of that or any other issue.

Libertarianism is pretty far from the mainstream. It is wacky fringe politics.

22% of all voters either are or lean toward Libertarianism. Woudn't call that fringe politics but whatever.

Buddy - you get 50 points on yer answer.

When I was single and the Panama Canal was a hot political topic - I used to use that question as a leading question on the ladies - anything more than 'Gee, isn't it south of here?' or 'Wow - it's got a lot o water in it' type-o-answer might tell me that the lass in question actually paid attention to current political thingies.

And was worth seeing naked...

Not that yer worthy or unworthy of seeing naked [tis not my week for boys and the calendar seems full]

but....

KUDOS for a pertinent answer !

OK fair enough. My hopes are restored. It was but as usual in this place it started veering off into us nasty Libertarians and I put some links a few black Libertarians. I thought an open minded person may go and try and see why they would have a belief that seems to an important voting bloc so different. Larry Eder is on there and he is maybe the easiest to read and understand though so maybe start with him and branch out from there. Warning though a couple of them are maybe too hard to grasp and I found reading "The Republic" by Plato easier. (I am not kidding) Just glance at them.

As a note 7% of ALL voters are Libertarian and another 15% lean toward that way. I am among the 15%. And to answer your question, no the Republican party is lost. They are really nothing more than Democrats. They are the party of Lincoln though and I can assure you that no KKK will ever vote for the party of Lincoln. I actually know this for a fact. Quite a few Democrats are in Congress because they have their backing.

Sorry for the late response on this but I wanted to ask you about your last statement, " Quite a few Democrats are in Congress because they have their backing"

I'm not familiar with any Democrats in Congress that have KKK backing. Financial backing? Are they campaigning for them? Do you have names I'd be interested in reading up on them. I am aware of some former Congressmen who were in the Klan like Sen. Robert Byrd who later renounced his affiliation.

For me I am not ignorant of the Libertarian platform. I mean there are lots of different flavors of Libertarianism, right? You have people like Noam Chomsky who is a Libertarian Socialist, Ayn Rand who is an Objectivist Libertarian etc. So I don't want to make broad brush statements but generally speaking I believe the State has a responsibility to protect the interest of it's citizens, in particular minorities. So yes if a minority wants to walk into a publicly accessed restaurant and sit at a counter and order a milk shake and not be denied service they have that right - furthermore, it is up to the State to enforce that citizens right. The concept of private property goes out the window when you are offering goods or services to the public.

I like a lot of the work the ACLU does, granted most of their platforms do not fall under the definition of Libertariansim. I only bring that org up because I'm right on board when it comes to privacy and rights of citizens when it comes to privacy from the government - which Libertarians are a champion of. So those areas of privacy I'm virtually 100% on board with.

I give Rand Paul credit, he does reach out to demographics that Republicans largely ignore but I disagree with the core of the party as it pertains to Civil Rights. That is important to me. As a voter that is one of my top issues. If Libertarians want African American votes that is one area they need to give the fight up on and join a more civilized majority who rejects discrimination over philosophical masturbation over Utopian concepts. I was familiar with Anarchism before I was with Libertarians. When I was young I read a book called In Defense of Anarchism by Robert Wolff which really sounded like a "great" system to adopt but the truth is Anarchy like many other ideas of government/society interaction is very fringe and not practical - granted maybe Libertarianism isn't as fringe as Anarchy but it's in the same ballpark in my opinion.
