I am assisting my elderly in-laws in applying for tourist visas to visit me and my husband (their son) in the US. They live in Jordan, and there you must pay visa fees at Cairo Bank. They completed this today (it is 8:30pm in Jordan and they did the transaction in the early afternoon) and have their receipt number. The system is not accepting the number. Does anyone know how often systems are updated with receipt numbers? We would like to schedule the interview ASAP as I am currently in Dubai on a consulting assignment and they want to travel back to the States with me so I can assist them in airports (again, they are elderly). I leave at the end of the month, so timing is critical. The site says qualified applicants are generally approved and processed within 4 days, so we do have time, but still cutting it close...

My first thought was that the tickets are going to cost an arm and a leg.

Do they have their appointments.

Have you considered AP?

Have you considered AP?

Tickets are within budget.

They do not have their appointments; we cannot schedule their appointments without the payment receipt being in the system: thus my question and reason for posting.

They are not eligible for AP, according to my understanding, as they are not traveling due to an urgent medical need. We are simply trying to do this quickly because traveling with me will make it exponentially easier on them, but I don't know that that meets criteria?

I do not know how often they update, never seen it discussed.

In that version of AP, I have never seen them do checks on males in their 70s. It seems to be something that younger males must undergo.

My husband came on a student visa for grad school at age 24 and they did not do AP on him, although he seems to be the exception rather than the rule. He received his F1 visa in 3 days from interview.

I am not sure to what extent age comes into it, less of a threat maybe but more to check?

Jordan seems a better bet than say Egypt, no idea why, just going from reports on here.

I often wonder how they can check anything in some countries, common names seems to be an issue.

Perhaps their less-common last name had something to do with my husband's speedy F1 approval? I have no idea. (Also...I messed up his age...he was 22...losing my sense of time...)

At any rate, I hope the receipt number from the payment of the visa fees enters the system quickly so I can schedule their interview. Currently, there is only a 1 week lead time for an appointment, and I'd like to get that secured....

My in laws didn't have AP when they got their CR1 visas through my husband's brother a few years ago. They never used their visas, but AP wasn't an issue. AP is a lot less prevalent for males of any age in Jordan as compared to other so called "T" countries.

As another update, they were granted a 6 month stay upon entry, but they returned to Jordan after 5 weeks. Next time, we will do a shorter visit...they were extremely homesick.
