Welcome,
could someone, please, share their details on how did you physically assemble the AOS package?

I read this:
http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing
And the "AVCO fasteners" sound like a good idea, but does it mean I would punch the top of every single paper I send? And for things like pictures, should i put them in an envelope (or clear file holder)?

Also,

1. passport photos are in a clear baggy, [stapled] to the application? or attached in any other way?

2. Payments (I know, separate for I-130 and for I-485) should the checks be stapled to the application? or attached somehow else?

And what about those tabs the USCIS site mentions?

Citing:

"The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing."

Did anyone do it, and if yes, what kind of tabs did you use?

Sorry for so many questions, this application process feeds my previously unexplored potential for anxiety and panic ;-)

Thank you for help!

they will punch the holes if you do not (send copies not originals.) Put pictures in a baggy or print them out on plain white paper. To use plain paper cuts down on the weight.

We used binder clips to hold everything. They hold more than paperclips do.

The reason why they want bottom tabs vs side is because the whole thing goes into a legal sized folder with the AVCO fasteners on both sides. '

Welcome to the forum.

Agree with NLR.

Taking the VJ general assembly instructions quite literally will result in a nicely assembled package worthy of any bureaucracy. USCIS will take it apart anyway, and prepare, organize, assemble it according to their preferred style.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Thanks for the welcome. And the replies.

This forum has so much information!

How about the checks?

Should they be stapled to the front of the first page of the form they belong to?

I know staples are big no no for everything else, but I found people saying they did stapled checks.

Also about checks: can both checks be from one person's account? (or I130 check must be from citizen's account and I864 form immigrant's?)

thanks again!

I'd paper clip them. I doubt they care whose account it's from.
