Since someone else reminded me about this publication a few months back, I went on-line to sign up. For those interested in learning a bit about islam and muslims living in a western world (an eastern world too), it has some interesting articles.

The photography in the published snail mail version are always worth it and I got a very nice calendar for 2007 with the last issue of 2006.

You can check out some back issues here:

Saudi Aramco Back Issues

The current issue (not showing on-line yet . . I just got it in the mail) has an article written by a woman I know by association (a learned person that educates some of the "wanting to be educated" dancers around the world . . . she writes good articles) and photos by another woman that I know (I took drum lessons with her at a workshop and bump into her around the country).

Also, horses (hehe), Islamic super heroes . . . and more (I left my copy downstairs and am too lazy to go get it to expand on these).

Welcome home Catherine!! :D

Thanks for posting this. I don't have time to look now as I have to rush off to work but I'll definitely take a look later on today.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

I got my January/Februay 2007 issue by the computer now, so I wanted to give you an idea of the articles for this issue:

1) "Effat's New Roses" - written the Kay hardy Campbell/Photographed by Nicole LeCorgne (these are the 2 women I mentioned before) - about women who graduated from Saudi Arabia's first private women's college (53 last year) and how the founder loved roses so each graduate received a diploma and a rose.

2) "The Barb" - written by Jane Grutz: about the North African Berber or "Barb" horse . . . if you love horses or just like to look at pix, there are some nice ones - this is some of the history.

3) "The New Generation of Superheroes" - written by Piney Kesting/Photos and Illustration courtesy of Teshkeel media Group. Yep, Islamic superheroes. I have to read this article to find out more . . . didnt know about this at all.

4) "The Art of Integration" - How to be both British and Muslim - photographs by Peter Sanders. Yusuf Islam (the former Cat Stevens) is one of the ppl included. The reason why he released a new album for the first time in 28 years??? "I have decided to sing out for a peaceful world again". . . . he has a cat named Sgt. pepper, hehe.

5) "Seas Beneath the Sands" - written by Louis Wener/photographed by Kevin Bubriski - Egypt's largest water resource is not the Nile

There's a 2 page classroom guide for the issue revolving around the theme of integration.

at the back there is an index for 2006 and a list of Events and Exhibitions (I wish I could go to some of these that around the world. . . "Oriental Glass" - the history of glass making in the Middle East is at The Hague till March 18th.

Lots of food for thought here!

One minor gripe. In nearly every interview or article on Yusuf's new album, they say it's his first release in 28 years. No, it's not. It's his first pop release in 28 years. But, he's released several nasheed albums, starting in the 1990s. I own almost all of them. Bah!

10/14/05 - married AbuS in the US lovehusband.gif

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

I'm guessing you like the nasheed albums Rahma? Do you know if there's anyplace on line I could listen to a sample?

Hehe, I learned the arabic alphabet with A is for Allah. I can't wait to have kids so I can play it for them

Yusuf was interviewed on Talk of the Nation on NPR last week (or maybe before) and I missed it. I wanted to ask him about his plans for doing more nasheedy music, like this performance in Abu Dhabi. He started the NPR interview with his song the wind. I wanted to ask him to play the wind/ruh song from Abu Dhabi.
