i130 and items needed, questions

Hi all,

I am getting my i130 ready and i have a few questions...

1) I'm reading some cover letters saying that they included foreign spouse birth certificate and passport, but it is not asked on the instructions... should I include it? I know that later on the i485 they ask it, but I just want to double check as everybody as different cover letters...

2) USC passport copy... full passport copy ? or just the first page ? should I include the USC Birth certificate ?

Please note that I am under H1B visa and filing for adjustment of status, living in the US

Most people prepare all required forms and documents and assemble them into a package, and then send the complete package. This eliminates going back and forth with USCIS requesting more and more information. Do you have a reason to not file all of your forms concurrently? I think most would agree that this is the easiest way to do it and there are some really detailed guides on here about what forms you need and what evidence you should have. Also be sure to read the USCIS instructions pages that go along with each form. It is a lot to fill out but if you just go line by line you will find the instructions are pretty clear.

as for passport copy, just the page with your picture and personal information. You don't need to include every page of your passport. For the petitioner either a US birth certificate or a valid (not expired) US passport will work to prove citizenship.

Edit: Oh, I see. No, you don't need it for the I-130, but it is all going to the same place in the same envelope.
