Not at all. Build the prototype and if work then find investors. I mean what could go wrong with glass highways?

Are you under the impression that researching and prototyping is free?

Or are you under the impression that a single corporate entity can be expected to bear the costs of research that will eventually benefit an entire industry (or more)?

Build all the ways you can think of to harness solar energy or wind energy, and you still will not have a continuous supply of energy. You will always need an on demand source to meet your energy needs. You still need something to provide the heat to turn the turbines, or the mechanical energy, to spin the alternators, to provide electricity when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow.

1) I don't think this is viable as a road surface, unfortunately, but I do think this is viable as a parking lot surface. Which is great! That's something.

2) As a Raging Liberal, I would be happy if we got our consumption of burny power (nuclear, fossil fuels, etc) down to a mere 50% in North America--every project like this is a step towards that goal.

3) Hydroelectric is better, imo, than the other options. It's a near constant (depending on location) and it's effective. I'm sure there are more places to build hydroelectric generators, which would make a big dent.

Where?

My US geography comes from comic books, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but I am sure sites exist for even small dams. I'm not saying that they'll be like Hoover or Niagara falls, but smaller dams on smaller waterways could also be used.

Well all rivers have been used pretty much. Since then we have found them to be very destructive to the envoroment and even led to extinctions. The big enviromental lobby would never allow it.
