Hey all, new to the forum here.

My name is Paul, and my fiancée in Vietnam and I are eagerly awaiting our first meeting (physically) in September. Have found lots of useful information here, and hope to learn as much as we can (and also share/give back if we can)

Have lots of questions, will try to put them in the right places!

For starters, I am curious if anyone here has utilized the "LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS FOR MARRIAGE REGISTRATION IN VIETNAM" from the Vietnam Embassy website in the U.S.? Seems a lot better than the alternative, going to Vietnam and filling out the paperwork there, paying/waiting for translation of my documents from here, etc..

Welcome to VJ, Paul!

On the basis of your query, I'm moving your thread from the "Introducing Our Members" forum to the Vietnam regional forum. Members there are quite helpful.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I DID use the search function (I've only been doing this www thing since before there was a www. you know, when 300 baud was fast) and came up with one topic. With one opinion. and a link to another post on VJ that I apparently do not have permission to see.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/486632-visa-to-go-to-vietnam-went-up-in-price/page-1

Hence my asking a specific question: if people had experience with using those documents from the embassy website and being successful. Because apparently the person that made that post WASNT successful, for whatever reasons, that I apparently don't have permission to read about.

And manually digging through 111 pages didn't turn up the answer to my question, either.

But I do appreciate the suggestion. Thanks.

The forum's search function is severely limited. This is intentional on the part of the people who develop the forum software. Intensive searches put a very heavy load on the database manager, and hence cause the server to slow to a crawl.

Better quality results can usually be had by using Google's advanced search function. Use very specific search terms (include phrases, if possible), and direct the search only at the visajourney.com domain. If you don't get the results you like then adjust your search terms and try again.

I'm not sure how many people you'll find with the specific experience you're looking for. A lot of people don't marry in Vietnam unless they're already living there or they spend a lot of time there. From my understanding, it takes a long time to get the official marriage documents from the Vietnamese government, and a lot of Americans can't stay in Vietnam long enough in one visit to finish the process.

BTW, a common reason for not being able to view a thread (the "You don't have permission..." message you saw) is because a moderator moved the thread into a hidden forum that only moderators can see, usually because a brawl broke out in the thread.

...

This sub-forum is specifically about Vietnam. You should probably post your question in the forum for "Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America".

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Thanks for the info, Jim. From what I am hearing here and elsewhere is the embassy legalization method works, so I am going to go that route.

If it saves us time when I get to Vietnam, (or as I planned, sending them to her with a POA to file for us before then) it is a good thing.
