A British Tea Shop would require a more upmarket area possibly. We are aiming for the low life dollar.

Yeah this is Boston we got that covered

I tried a number of different recipes to make the oatcakes myself, but it's not quite the same.

When I lived in Florida there was a new British pub which opened up, and they had the fish and chips with mushy peas! I was in heaven. There's a good presence there, so you may find one! Google British Florida. :)

No, I tried them too, they didn't go crispy enough, maybe needs to b a higher heat, need a griddle and an Aga.

I will google Thant.. So far all the Irish pubs I've been to here in orlando do not have fishnn chips done right, the batter just isn't right.

Here it is. There's a link at the top to the British pubs. I was hoping to find the one I was talking about. I'll ask my husband if he remembers it. I was very disappointed to find that pubs in the US claiming to be Irish/British are usually just American versions, so finding a real one is a bit of a challenge. lol

I must have been spoiled with public transport in Northern Ireland. Buses ran on time, gnerally (except for bomb alerts and the such) and the buses tended to be fairly modern (Probably because the amount of them that got burnt out and then replaced.)

Ah happy memories.

A 20% off sale at the British market on frozen foods. Good until Friday. No coupon.

And every Saturday they do 15% off everything. I think there is a code word for Saturdays. I get emails. They have Jaffa cakes.

Gotta admit that made me laugh.

I'm actually going to miss the railway network, I live out of the way in the westcountry but I can get to London in two hours by intercity and get direct trains to most of the UK from where I live. In Boston there's a good Amtrak service to NYC and a bit of commuter rail but other than that it's #######. I like getting the train, I don't like being a bus wa***r to quote the Inbetweeners.

Transportation.... I have just read your Blog. You are going to need a truck... Its a necessity, and a practical vehicle.

The weather. You think you are not going to be obsessed with it. HA!

My wife lives in the suburbs of Boston close to the T. While it's a pale shadow of the Tube you can get to most places you need on it and she has a car. No need for a truck for us.

I expect my first winter will be hibernating inside like a hedgehog and refusing to go out. I experienced -20C in Maine in winter and it was NOT pleasant!!

Hell does freeze over in the winter in Virginia. At least we get seasons. I was used to gray damp and cold in the winter and then grey damp and less cold in the summer back across the pond.

Homesickness hit me hard today, harder than it has in years. I spent much of lunch looking at pictures of my old pub in Walberswick, where the former Mr Maven and I used to spend many hours drinking Adnams and reading the newspaper in companionable silence punctuated by the occasional chat. :( I thought of what it looked like when I emerged from St Paul's tube station, the quality of light streaking down Cheapside. The old Routemasters with the bare lightbulbs screwed in, sitting on the upper deck, back when there were still conductors and it's raining outside and you're a little cold and the conductor gives you 10p change from your pound because a bus ride's 90p back then and the smell of the upholstery in the wetness. 3am at the Troy Club in Hanway Street, 2002, the place a fug of smoke and sweaty Soho nastiness. Racing to get to Somerfield on a Sunday afternoon because it closed at 4pm. Cold little Boots tuna mayonnaise and cucumber sandwiches, maybe a cheese and onion one and OH I'd kill for a bag of Hula Hoops. Dawn on Parliament Hill. Sunset at some Notting Hill pub in August. Rushing from work on a Friday evening to get to the station -- there's a B&B in the Peak District to get to, Bakewell tarts tomorrow afternoon after a ramble.

I live in LA and I haven't owned an umbrella in years. It sort of makes me sad.

Awwww... reading this made me feel so homesick too. I lived in the same town for all my life before moving here (35 yrs). Every time one of my friends or family members posts a photo on FB and I can see the town center in the background, or I can recognize the park or the restaurant they are sat it, I want to weep. Some people adapt better than others when they move and relocate, but for others I think the home sickness will never leave and I think im going to fall into the latter category.

I must be one of the fortunate ones that hasn't gotten homesick, not since I arrived here in the USA. The Other Half has never been able to understand how I can stand not visiting the UK in years.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
