In amongst all the serious threads about approvals and denials - I'm interested in what you guys will miss about the UK when you move, and what measures you'll put in place to combat them!

I'll start:

British TV! I think I'll rely on YouTube and ExpatShield for that...

Without sounding egotistical, my band. After 15 years as a musician, we got signed to an indie label last November. We've released two singles, recently finished a national tour and we've just dropped our debut album... Ironic that that's happened just as a I filed for immigration. So I'm teaching my brother the bass lines and shoe-horning him in as my replacement. Fortunately, some of my wife's friends are musicians, so hopefully I can get back into it fairly quickly.

Irn-bru.

I'll rely on relatives smuggling that in. Ha

My dad is Scottish, so this stuff is like life-blood to me... Can see myself yearning for a "tin of ginger" and a Tunnock's caramel bar before long! Edited by shippingforecast

The National Trust volunteers are a treasure. I remember being at a NT property once with a friend and my friend asked a question about the archaeology and the old lady volunteer there said "I'll try to keep it simple as I know they don't teach much in schools these days". So I replied my friend here is a PhD candidate in history and I've just been awarded an MA in archaeology but don't worry we'll try to keep our questions simple

:o How rude!

I did the Buckingham Palace tour and one lady kept chatting to a couple of the theology students who were there as "security". The final question I heard her asking as I was leaving the room was "What time do you close?" to which the response was "As soon as you leave, madam. As soon as you leave."

Football days. Drinking all day because you have to numb the feeling of watching the dross on the pitch(Leeds). In all seriousness, probably miss my friends and there's not really much you can do to compensate that.

Love the avatar. lol

According to my wife, Heinz pretty much just puts their baked beans in a ketchup... which sounds gross to me.

Get some real baked beans from your local grocery store.

Try something from the grocery called Pork and Beans. If it's called Baked Beans it will have stuff like brown sugar, mustard, molasses...sweet dark goop. The "pork" in Pork and Beans is about two dots of something, so don't let that put you off. You won't think they are meaty by any means.

My husband refused to consider the options, so I convinced him finally to take a blind taste test. Real Heinz vs Van Camps. He was fine with them. There is a Kroger store brand he thought was Heinz.

Photo example--notice no actual "pork" visible. http://cds.a9t2h4q7.hwcdn.net/main/store/20090519001/items/media/Wallcoverings/conagra_wall/ProductLarge/5200002027.jpg

Worth a try if you don't want to pay the price of imports.

As a big baked bean aficionado, Van Camps is pretty nice, but the best I've found here are Bush's: http://www.bushbeans.com/en_US/products/baked_beans/

The Homestyle are great, as are the Bold and Spicy.

Bush's are very nice.

My wife hated the Heinz and thought baked beans were awful, but I got her to try these and she likes them now.
