  1. 1. The Chinese still know how to dream big dreams. Why has America forgotten?

    • Because we're busy collecting followers on Twitter. Priorities, man!
    • Because the fiscal conservative naysayers have killed the can-do spirit in America.

    • Because liberals who love to spend have hollowed America out from the inside.

    • We still dream big. The premise of the question is false!
  2. 2. Do you like the idea of a train from mainland China to America's Pacific coast?

    • Yes, but only if it carries commercial goods only. No people.
    • Yes, but only if it carries people! People to people contact is the best bulwark against conflict.

    • No. The last thing this country needs is another way for the Chinese to send their manufactured goods and people here.

6 months on 6 months off. Pay them double and watch them spend more quality time with family. I even suggest maybe putting up huge mirrors to reflect the sun light to the area and change the weather pattern. Then we can build artificial islands along the way and have Bahama theme parties during time outs. Bring in hot Asian babes in bikinis to populate the region.

No, you can't build the "Bahamas on the Bering"

Besides, the people up there are too crabby.

Build Ganja farms to chill out the Crabby people.

Oh and we have to have the Bahama thingy or the hot Asian babes in bikinis doesn't work so good.

Ain't no Lucayan people left on the Bahamian islands, mon.

My point being, places can get repopulated.

Usually if they're warm and sunny. :)

If the Bering Strait is warm and sunny, I've got a bridge to sell you. ;)

OK maybe your idea is more practical but hardly thinking big. The British and French were able to build a tunnel and I think we can outdo them.

Still has the issue of the construction window. You can tunnel all year round. Your window for bridge construction may be less than 6 months per year..

Depending on how severe the current is, you could just do what they do for many transbay railways - build a tube, and let it sink to the bottom. A long tunnel under the ocean floor in a seismically active region is not a good idea.
