I hope they resolve this.

It seems he complicated the issue a bit:

His escape attempt came after he was put in with the general prison population at La Mesa. On April 6, he was placed in a single-person cell, where he apparently stabbed himself in the neck, either as a suicide attempt or a ploy. After getting stitches at Tijuana General Hospital, he was placed in the infirmary.

There have been an interesting number of Americans who 'accidentally' end up foreign countries with guns or ammo. I have read stories lately of an American in India and another one in Pakistan, both claiming to have not known they were carrying. Both are in custody right now.

I have a feeling if we were to google this, we'd find many more.

Is it possible to accidentally cross the border?

Very easy to "accidentally" cross the border in a vehicle. Once you past the last exit -- no u-turn available.

Millions of Mexicans have accidentally crossed the border, why not a USC?

Accidental crossings into Mexico apparently happen often. This guy is not the first. Another man who was at the checkpoint, declared he made a mistake and had a gun, he asked to turn around and they still arrested him.

Now that, is not fair.

He stabbed himself in the neck? He doesn't sound very stable or reliable. Still, I doubt he's a big felon who requires punishment, probably suffering pds and the like.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Or maybe a Mexican prison is just that bad. I saw Gringo with Mel Gibson so I'm a bit of an expert on this subject.

Well, you got me beat. Everything I know about Mexico I learned from The Three Amigos.
