My oral contraceptive was carefully selected for me after a battery of tests ordered by OB/GYN before I moved to America over 15 years ago. From that point on my family and friends re-supply me, bringing usually 12 months worth pills every time they travel to one of the countries my BC is sold in (Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland). My BC is an over the counter medication there. No prescription needed. Nobody ever had any issues bringing it in.

I am a USC. My husband is a beneficiary. Adjusted from E-3.

You may want to review the risks you're putting these family members in.

It is illegal to bring in unapproved drugs. The FDA will ease up on that under certain conditions, but having a relative bring in a year supply does not meet those conditions. You must bring them yourself and have 90 days or less supply.

It is illegal to bring in undeclared drugs.

Although it sounds like the worst case is the drugs will just be taken from them.

FDA's guidance is not, however, a license for individuals to import unapproved (and therefore illegal) drugs for personal use into the U.S. Even if all of the factors noted in the guidance are present, the drugs remain illegal and FDA may decide that such drugs should be refused entry or seized. The guidance represents FDA's current thinking regarding the issues of personal importation and is intended only to provide operating guidance for FDA personnel. The guidance does not create any legally enforceable rights for the public; nor does it operate to bind FDA or the public.

Hello Visa journey,

My flight will be on May 19, i am planning to bring a few months supply of my birth control pills to the US. I just want to know if it is okay to bring it coz i read some that i will be needing some prescription in order for me to bring it, some others said, i don't need anymore..I was confused.I need a precise answer since i don't want to have trouble in the airport and my POE.

Thanks VJers...

Why would you want to bring birth control with you? Don't you want to get knocked up as soon as possible?

maybe some people like to enjoy a little time with their spouse while they adjust before jumping into parenthood.

Although I have to admit, a large percentage from the Philippines seem to want to get pregnant right away.

I appreciate your concern. Thank you. However, my long-standing arrangement will remain intact.

OP can make her own decision based on the info shared here.

I have nothing else to say regarding this matter.

It is actually illegal in the United States to carry prescrption drugs in any container except the original prescription container.

This law is not closely enforced on the street, but expect closer enforcement at immigration.

Since birth control is quite legal in the United States, bringing it in the original prescription container should present no problem.

I just kept it in the original packaging and I have never had an issue (I bring usually 6 months worth) so I say, I would not stress...
