bringing birth control

Hello Visa journey,

My flight will be on May 19, i am planning to bring a few months supply of my birth control pills to the US. I just want to know if it is okay to bring it coz i read some that i will be needing some prescription in order for me to bring it, some others said, i don't need anymore..I was confused.I need a precise answer since i don't want to have trouble in the airport and my POE.

Never heard of any issues bringing BC.. Especially a few months worth (now if you bringing years worth might raise eyebrows) .. If you want to be on the safe side, have in original box or letter from Dr. But I honestly don't see it being an issue at all..

My fiance brought 3 months worth of it last time she visited and she had no problems getting through. I think you will be just fine!

i think it would be best to bring prescription from the doctor.. just to be safe and to ease up your worries...maybe you can bring more even.. goodluck

When I went to visit my fiancé as a tourist before, I had 3 months supply of birth control pills. I did have a prescription with me just in case the officers would need one. But when I got past security and did not ask for any prescription. Better be sure than sorry, I guess.

Birth control is a pretty basic prescription drug. It isn't a schedule drug, and doesn't really have a potential for abuse, so it shouldn't be a problem crossing borders with a couple packs. I crossed with 6 months worth.

It is illegal to import prescription drugs into the USA without a valid prescription, regardless of whether its for personal use or not.

It is also illegal to import prescription drugs into the USA which are not approved for use in the USA by the FDA, regardless of whether you have a valid prescription or not.

I'd bring a copy of the prescription anyway. This is usually accomplished by the labeling on the medicine which should indicate your name, the name of the prescribing phyisician and the Rx number.

Chances of them being found are small and chances of having a problem with a personal supply of birth control are small too, but why take a chance with an overzealous inspector at POE?

I brought a 9 month supply of BC plus prescription and didn't have any problems, BUT I was not checked at customs (I came by cruise ship and for some reason, they did not do any customs checks at my POE).

Other than that, I double novedsac's post. It is illegal to bring in any prescription drugs that have not been approved by the FDA, and as a matter of fact, I do know of people (from Germany) who had their birth control pills taken out of their bags or out of the packages they had sent to America.

Birth control pills are prescription drugs in the USA and require a prescription. Many bring them in just fine with no issue, but legally you must have a prescription to bring them in.
