TB skin test uncertain of what the result will be tomorrow, take a look pls

How does this look like to those who already had their medical and had TB skin test done? Today is 24hr mark and I am going back to civil surgeon tomorrow after 48hrs to have my arm checked.

Did you ever receive a TB (bcg) shot? That can produce positive reaction on skin test. However, a friend of mine had a positive reaction (she didn't know she received the bcg vaccine) and was sent to get a chest x-ray. When that came back clear, her medical also went through. Another option is that they do the TB blood test (which imho they should do in the first place since the skin test is notoriously unreliable).

I do have to check my vaccine records from Mexico. I do not remember back then but 12 years ago when I applied for my F1 visa but I should probably had to take the TB test and if I did of course I passed it because I got my visa approved. I do remember having several shots that I did not have in my vaccine records from my country.

I talked to a friend who is a nurse and her specialty is contagious disease, she said it is very hard to judge by a picture. She also mentioned the blood test. She asked me if I had been sick, coughing, etc and the answer is not. Just a nasty kidney infection that is gone now.

I will find out tomorrow morning when I go back to the clinic.

In regard of the measurement of the induration I found the same information almost in every website, except that ones say 10mm is positive and others say it is 15mm for the group I fall into :

A tuberculin reaction is classified as positive based on the diameter of the induration in conjunction with certain patient-specific risk factors. In a healthy person whose immune system is normal, induration greater than or equal to 15 mm is considered a positive skin test. If blisters are present (vesiculation), the test is also considered positive.

In some groups of people, the test is considered positive if induration less than 15 mm is present. For example, an area of induration of 10 mm is considered positive in the following groups:

• Immigrants from high-prevalence areas
• Residents of high-risk areas
• IV drug abusers
• Children under 4 years old
• Pediatric patients exposed to high-risk adults
• People who work with Mycobacteria in laboratories

An induration of 5 mm is considered positive for the following groups:

• People whose immune system is suppressed
• HIV-infected people
• People with changes seen on chest X-ray that are consistent with previous TB

A. The tuberculin skin test (TST) is the administration of a tuberculin solution in between the different levels of your skin. The Technical Instructions require a Mantoux tuberculin skin test, which is an intradermal injection of the tuberculin solution. After the administration of the test by the civil surgeons staff, you will need to return to the civil surgeon's office within 48 to 72 hours to have the result read. Generally, if the reaction is 4 mm or less, you will not need any further tests for TB. If the reaction is 5mm or greater, you are required to have a chest x-ray as a means of additional screening for TB.

That is a positive result for TB. Doesn't mean you have it though. Likely as another mentioned, you were vaccinated for TB. Anyway the doctor will figure it out. No way to hide it.

Even if its positive,she will go through xray and im pretty sure xray gonna be fine.so there is nothing to worry abt.

I am pretty sure that is positive. It looks bigger than 4mm

But, don't worry. It could be from the TB vaccine. It could be that you were exposed to it before. They will check your lungs (via Xray) for scars and active infection. There are many paths to immigration that include a positive TB skin test.

This is how my arm looks today, 48 hrs later. Way different, no more swollen and very itchy. Definitely there is a reason why they ask us to come back 48 to 72 hrs later.

It is negative!!! Dr is so nice, when l asked when should l come back for the envelope the nurse said l can get it now... I was like " yes please have to drive quite a bit to get here" Dr said " mention that to the person taking care of it so they speed up the process" . I just signed the form and they are preparing my envelope . Yessss !!

Thank you! I have the sealed envelope and copies with me. I am so relief I don't have to worry about this anymore. Now onto putting the package together and make copies of everything before I sent it.

My arm is actually looking better as the hours pass by, I imagine if I had come to the clinic tomorrow after 72 hrs there would be almost anything left, but they don't open on Saturday. It's all good now
