Ahh the dice man. So Not PC, but hillarious

I found it amusing that some on the cast of SNL refused to appear with him because of his edgy material, yet Eddie Murphy was a regular who made race and gay jokes on a regular basis.

BTW I was a Huge Eddie Murphy fan.

As for ADC

How can one man, look at another mans hairy butt, and think WOW ...................

PS I support gay rights

The Ol Race Double standard.

Eddie was paid during a different era / mindset... but..at the risk of turning this into another race debate thread...wait...I just remembered.. that's what this thread is...duh.

I always wondered ( & still do) why any1 other than - whitey - can make whatever joke he / she wants....& - Including using the N word.

Seems to me - (many) Black comedians have fed the myth = shame on them.

Because it's the caste system. The oppressed class can do it because we're making fun of ourselves. If white comedians did it, how would it sound?

Look at what Michael Richards tried to do. See how it turned out.

It's not a myth, it's the way of life for most POC. It's funny because white people are mad we can do it and they can't. Like it's something they really think they deserve.

I'm not sure some of you understand though what the intent of the author and really the person who started the campaign was trying to make.

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2014/03/twitter-campaign-to-cancel-colbert-report.html

In our conversation, Park admitted that despite the hashtag’s command, she did not want “The Colbert Report” to be cancelled. “I like the show,” she said. Instead, she said, she saw the hashtag as a way to critique white liberals who use forms of racial humor to mock more blatant forms of racism. “Well-intentioned racial humor doesn’t actually do anything to end racism or the Redskins mascot,” Park told me. “That sort of racial humor just makes people who hide under the title of progressivism more comfortable.”

I happen to agree with Suey Park in that regards. What the original author in the OP article was stating was the vicious, racist backlash she was getting for going along with that campaign from an audience that one would not expect to harbor such views. Perhaps it is the anonymity of the internet, people feel like they have a license to show their "arses" off. To a larger degree also in reference to White liberals, I also agree that even the most well intentioned people can unknowingly harbor certain viewpoints or actions that they don't even realize is racist. This reminds me of a poem by Gwendolyn Brooks, Lovers of the Poor. (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/172089) These high society women who want to do something "right" by volunteering with the poor but they are offended by the smells, language, atmosphere etc etc.

For the record I like Colbert, not actually my favorite brand of humor that he does on his show. When it comes to political humor these days I like Bill Maher. I was also a big fan of George Carlin, of course Richard Pryor I have all their albums. I'm totally cool with people making jokes that poke fun at certain racial topics if the over all intention is to bring humor to topics all of us can relate to and perhaps through comedy have a greater understanding of one another. I don't particularly find jokes with mal-intent, or pure hatred with very little comedic value funny. As Marvin pointed out, Michael Richardsons rant was not only not funny but very offensive - I actually think he just had a meltdown on stage because of a heckler and he was not trying to be funny.

And like Suey Park, I don't like racial comedy that mocks blatant forms of racism. I dunno like if some comedian got on stage and started making Jewish Holocaust jokes. I would find that rather tasteless and offensive. I think that is clear that that was not Colberts intent BTW - just having a greater discussion.

I am not discounting racism exists. It would be ludicrous to try.

Here's my point (which was obviously not clear) = The N word has a negative connotation. I can't imagine the word ever being used in a complimentary way. When the word is used = it's a tag indicating the black person is less than other races = myth. Blacks are not less than other races. They are born equal. So when a comedian uses the word = they perpetuate the myth by tagging a black person with it. (if) They use the word on any non black = they continue to point out that N's exist and are less than = reminder.

Shame on any1 which uses the word. Period.

Notice I added a word to your sentence. You're welcome.

My wife is Filipina. She experiences some form of bigotry ...maybe 1-2 times EACH month. Guess which race doles out the attitude to her the most... hands down overwhelming majority = Blacks. Especially Black women. Coincidence? I think not.

It is the same with the Jews and Blacks in NY. Those on the lower rungs etc. Inexcusable IMHO. However the history of the Filipinas in America is different from those....

If your wife is experiencing hatred maybe she should become a comedienne too and express her frustrations. She could use comedy to explain her plight.

Because it's not the world you live in. The folks that say it in that way is because that's how they've been conditioned to see themselves. You don't understand it because it's not something that affects you. I know this because it's a habit I had to break. I know older black people that say it because it's all they know. I've had to correct folks weekly.

The N-word isn't the only reminder. When black people get paid less than white people, we know. When blacks and Hispanics are in jail four times more than white people for drug use and you're the majority, we know. When black teens and black senior citizens are considered so dangerous they can be killed and the murderers walk or get little jail time(under a calendar year) we know. When white mass murderers get to be buried and NO ONE speaks ill of them, yet a black kid walking home from the store, unarmed, becomes paper targets for the police department, has mayors and political figures talking about him like he was Jack the Ripper, has this website scared to death, and folks on Twitter saying thank God he was killed, we know.

Your last sentence? I added a word because it looks like you said all black people. Which isn't true. Because my wife works at the Base Exchange here, and you know who she gets the most flack from? Some white women. See how that works.

1st) Your usage of the word some (in this post) is redundant. We both identified and provided the quantifier prior to the answer. (just sayin')

2nd) Again...I am not discounting the actions & effect of racism / bigotry directed to the Black community and other POC. In fact, I confirm my own experience via my wife. I'm not interested in getting into a ####### for tat (on that issue) coz ...I'm not disagreeing & I am not the shadow you are punching at.

3rd) (I regretfully will play ####### for Tat on this 1) I take issue with your comment regarding mass murderers = (just 1 of many examples) When the cannibal Dahmer died - I (personally) know many white people celebrated, witnessed it on TV "news" & I read many chain emails making celebratory sport of that freaks demise. Another comes to mind = How many people of all races claim W is a mass murderer and should be brought up on war crime charges...? It ain't just the POC throwing a tizz over that...

(Marvin) Your bigotry is showing... :hehe: (but) Don't sweat it too much with me coz I'm realistic on the topic = I think we all have an Archie Bunker in us...some more than others. Isn't it great to be part of the Human Race?! :energy:

My wife doesn't joke around regarding racism / bigotry. Asawa ko gets (a little) militant about it. Another reason I love her so much = She's a Billy Badazz!

You're seeing something else. Maybe I didn't explain this clearly enough.

I'm talking about folks like Adam Lanza, James Holmes, and any other person who took a weapon and started killing folks. There's no video games out there for them. There's no police targets, no one is on twitter thanking God for their deaths. But, TM has all three and more. Why do you think that is? Was he more dangerous than a white teenager with an cache full of weapons? When a teenager can be riddled full of bullets in a SUV and not have a gun, yet his killer said he was in fear for his life, and is believed, we have a problem.

It's not bigotry, it's the way of life for most of us. I'm just pointed out that the N-word, which sickening, is just a small piece of the puzzle. People are so concerned with the N-word, they ignore the rest of the stuff I mentioned. Work that out first, then maybe POC will see themselves as equal.

Marvin, I totally respect your POV and I absolutely agree you are better qualified than I (regarding the topic) to render an opinion =

I know how these conversations work (here on VJ) = never ending whirlpool of point / counterpoint which I prefer to avoid....

I agree the N word is a piece of the puzzle. But ..that doesn't negate it's impact. (& that's all I was addressing in response to a comment made by NB)

I posted a negative comment (in another forum) regarding Lanza & although I had a majority response agreeing - I was surprised how many came to the "young boy's" defense & blamed our society's lack of mental health awareness.....stunning revelation. I frankly don't care what color he is or what mental health issue he had. The freak was an evil monster. Period.

P.S. Bigotry is a way of life by choice. ;)

I agree with this as well. I think that we all should stop saying it. No argument there. And when that happens, it's a small step, but one in the right direction.

As for your second point, that's what I was saying. Those dudes are defended. For all the blood that's on their hands, very few if anyone will speak out about it. I'm with you, doesn't matter what color you are or religion, evil is evil.

As far as bigotry, I try to live my life without it. I give folks chances based on their merit and actions. Except on here when I just hate on people because I can.
