Hello Dear VJ Family.

Can anyone kindly advice me about getting a new passport because the one that both the USCIS and NVC has on file will expire pretty soon in less than 4 months.

I will love to know If I should go ahead and get a new passport because I am presently waiting for my case to get completed soon.

Thank you very much in advance.

First, I do not know where in the process you are, but I do know that in order for them to give you a K-1 Visa, you must have at least 6 months of validity on your passport. If you don't, I would advise that you get a renewal. My answer would be YES! Get the renewal. All of your information will/should be the same except your expiration date and/or photo.

We are in the same boat, mine will expire in September and what I intend doing is to renew my passport after medicals as I do not intend presenting a new passport for medicals, I want to use the same passport number and data page through out the process but will be presenting the renewed passport on the day of my interview.

Oh you think is not a good Idea to renew first even before Medicals?

I dont see anything wrong about that though am just trying to avoid complications if any. But am now thinking it better to get it now to be on the safe side incase of any unforseen delays in issuing new passport.

You can renew your passport at any time before the interview. Bring the old one and new one to the interview along with a photocopy of the biodata page of the new passport for the IV package update.

This happened to me 2 years ago when I applied for a K1. Go ahead and get the new one asap. You get to keep your old passport (in Canada they cut off a large corner and stamp it as cancelled) but will continue to use it for correspondence and paper work.logging into DHL (if you use that). You need to bring both to the interview. I sent MTL an email letting them know. They replied with 'okay'....I figured it was better this way as I was worried.

If your country does not return your old cancelled passport, I'd be sure to copy the bio page and anything other pertinent things from it before you surrender it. Just be sure you cross reference everything. Good luck.

A new passport will also have a new "passport number". Yes, renew now. No reason to wait. No reason to worry about passport numbers matching NVC's file for the medical. The medical facility won't know anything about the passport copy you sent NVC. Nothing to match except the name, to the interview letter.
