How are cuban nationals renewing (Prorroga de Pasaporte) passports while residing in the US? Are you having to send it to another country? Mexico, Canada, or even Cuba? Just wondering if anyone recently had their passport expire and has been able to figure out what to do about since the office in D.C. is not processing any requests at this time.

Thanks.

Maybe you can try calling the interest section in Havana? Or even Canada see if they can renew it even if it is for someone in the US. I know my friend who resides here had a 3 year visa to return back home to Cuba but has since expired and is now stuck here until they open back up.. He can't even go through another country back to Cuba.. Not sure why but the laws for Cuba alone confuse me..

Maybe there is a way to mail it to Cuba by DHL?

Yikes. I emailed the mexican, washington dc, and canadian locals with this question yesterday. asking for alternatives. we shall see what happens. the phone numbers as many can attest in this forum are useless. emails are hit or miss. i did see this posting where it mentions an agency through the DR that is handling these passport extensions for a fee. hmmmmm. seems sketchy.

thanks for the feedback. i'll keep researching, see what I can find out.

Supposedly, the Cuban Ints Section in DC is processing renewals for a limited time- for those with plans to travel to Cuba between now and August.

Sara is correct- I just read this online that the consular service in DC is renewing passports but you have to be traveling back to cuba in order for them to do it.

I guess if you go through marazul you can book a flight for July have them renew the passport and once it is renewed cancel the flight if you are actually not going back to Cuba at that time.

You would lose out on your deposit but you would have an updated passport.. Not positive though they might hold off on giving you a new passport until you actually fly out..

But hey its something to look into.. Hopefully they will find a bank soon and resume services in DC for all of us that need their services. I know I do..
